It has been over 3 years since Flow Studio released their survival RPG, Len’s Island, in early access. This week, they are ready to launch the major 1.0 update, adding the final chapter to the story, new enemies, biomes, a reworked skill tree, the long-awaited multiplayer, and much more.
There will be some big changes to the way you obtain weapons and skills. Leveling is a lot slower than before. Each level up gives you a skill point that you can spend in the skill tree. Instead of a linear progression, you now have four classes to invest in. These will focus on specific jobs within the game, like crafting or combat. While it is slower to obtain the skills, they have been designed in such a way that they feel a lot more impactful than the previous system.
Before, when you wanted a new weapon, you had to explore the different islands and purchase them. This way, you had something new to play with whenever you discovered a new town. However, your favorite weapon may have been locked behind hours of playtime. This has been replaced with a new blueprint system, which you can obtain much sooner, allowing you to craft tools and add to your armory early in the game.
In order to still get the same excitement of discovering new gear, the devs added exotic variants to replace them. Among the blueprints is a highly requested new weapon as well: the bow. This ranged weapon shows a critical hit indicator when pulling back the string. Releasing it at the right time will increase the arrow’s damage. You will be able to aim using the mouse cursor, and once you hover over an enemy or animal, it will lock on so you can focus on getting that critical hit.

This new ranged weapon will come in handy when you encounter one of the new water enemies. When you are out on the open sea, there is a chance you will come across a shark. When spotted, they will circle the player, and if you sit still for long enough, they launch at your raft, shaking it around until you fall off. At this point, they will go for a little nibble on you instead, dealing a lot of damage. This makes them a real menace when you are looking for a fishing spot, which now also shows a percentage chance of what you can catch at each location. Sharks can be killed and drop unique loot, allowing you to go back to your relaxing fishing trip.
In a previous article, the new slime cave biome, along with its inhabitants and resources, was revealed. Since then, the developers have shared that they were working on an optional slime boss that can be found in this area. This is something they would like to focus on more in the future, so we can expect more boss encounters in later updates.
Slimes and sharks are not the only new enemies coming in 1.0. Back in the concept phase of Len’s Island, they were designing something called a Void Stomper. Now, they have gone back to it and brought it to life. It can be found in the dungeons and has multiple attacks, like a stomp that sends you flying through the air, and it can also summon spikes that block your path. The Void Stomper will be one of the tougher enemies you face. It will be good training before you delve into the final dungeon and defeat the final boss, which is added alongside Act 5 of the questline.

We are also getting a new paid DLC with the game’s release. The Gothic Manor pack introduces building pieces like stained glass, metal fences, and more.
This new major update will be released on the 19th of June on Steam. As a bonus, you can play the game for free until the 23rd. If you already own the game, it is still a great way to invite friends who have not, as 1.0 allows you to play together with up to 8 players.
How do you like the new changes in the game, and what are you most looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.
