    • Pros
    • unique vampire survival concept,
    • deep and satisfying base-building system,
    • solid co-op and PvP options.
    • Cons
    • Late-game grind feels rough,
    • story is almost non-existent,
    • PvP balance can feel punishing for casuals,
    • They wouldn't nerf final boss even after weeks of players whining.

When i first jumped into V Rising, i thought “okay cool, vampire survival meets castle building” and for a while it totally delivers. You wake up as a weak vampire, you flee the daylight, you gather blood and resources, you build your castle, raid other players or monsters -> it hits that mix of survival, action RPG, and sandbox building pretty nicely. The gothic aesthetis is on point, there’s something really satisfying about crafting a nice base of operations and then returning from a hunt with new loot, building up a domain that feels yours. Some boss fights genuinely hit, the base-building lets you go wild, and the way your vampire evolve is fun. I bought all DLC’s that let you change castle theme – i do recommend them to everyone. Just keep in mind if you play multiplayer with pvp on, simple castle is not enough, you need to learn tricks on how to build base – using a lot of stairs for example, to be able to kill the enemy golem in time before he harms your base too much.
That said, after 20-30 hours i started noticing the cracks. The legend of “building big castle, dominate rivals” is there, but solo or on a less crowded server the loop can become repetitive: farm -> kill boss -> upgrade ger -> rebuild. Several users and reviews point out that boss variety is lacking and progression can plateau (which i felt too). The PvP and raiding system is great when it’s going, but for people who just play casually it might feel punishing or too time-gated. Also the narrative? it’s thin. If you came for a deep story you’ll be underwhelmed – V Rising leans heavily on mechanics over cutscenes or dramatic plot. On the technical side, menus and UI sometimes feel clunky, and some late-game crafting becomes a bit of a grind – you spam special events over and over and over again just to get some rare currency… Also what bothers me the most is difficulty. boss fights are mostly about learning tact – to figure out how to avoid damage etc etc. as much as i managed to kill almost all bosses Vlad the Dracula is a wake up call. Like… complaining about how impossible is to kill him didn’t make devs react to our whining. The only thing they improved was nerfing Vlad if you fight him in team. On twitch it was a daily routine for quite a while because everyone would try to beat vlad dracula for hours. I have to admit that i havent played for quite a while and meaby they fixed this issue by now.

All that being said, i still had a blast. If you’re into this type of games, this game is absolutely worth your time. But if you’re after a story-rich or endlessly varied experience you might burn out. Personally i think i would rate it around 8/10 -> a strong title in its niche, but not perfect.

    V Rising Review

    • Pros
    • Great Sound
    • Good Graphics
    • Nice Game Play Loop
    • Building is Easy
    • Cons
    • Wonky Controls
    • Not Enough End Game

This gem of a game is a mash-up of ARPG, Survival, and crafting game, with some amazing map details, lore, and challenges to overcome.
If you’ve read any of my fantasy novels, you may see an underlying current of vampire mythology pervasive through the stories. So to say I love me a good vampire story, or book, or game, is an understatement. V Rising manages to suck me in, without too much story to bog down the game play. What it DOES do well, since the story is missing, is set up an atmosphere of ALL vampire lore, and display it proudly and unabashed. It truly is a love letter to the mythology of the vampire.

At the beginning of the game, you are thrown into a simple narrative: Dracula was killed, and now it’s your turn to rise from the coffin and put humans in their place. You start modestly, struggling to survive in a hostile map with everything from plants, trees, wolves, and of course, humans, gunning to plunge a stake through your heart. You’re given a pretty linear tutorial on how to stay alive, and set up your first home, where all your workshops and resources will begin to pile up.

Building in V Rising is not horrible, there are some minor annoyances with it. Like trying to build upward. That’s also not to mention, room on your plot of land is at a premium. And moving your castle/home to a new plot is dreadfully complicated. And this is a personal preference, I am NOT a fan of how horses are controlled.
That is more or less the extent of my negative critiques. Pretty minor at that. V Rising is an immersive, “must play one more hour” kind of experience, and even at the full price tag of $35, well worth it. There is plenty to do and many hours of gameplay await you. There are enough challenges to overcome that you’ll be trying to tune your gear and stretch upward to the next goal. Even toward the end game, you’ll be discovering new things to do and build, leading to expanded castle builds and resource gathering. It can be a bit grindy at times, and some of the boss fights can be completely unfair at times. Looking at you, Dr Frankenstein.
Now, as for the DLC. Completely optional and up to your preference. Not required, but if you are a fan of the DLC packs, Castlevania, etc., then sure, support this game and get the DLC. You won’t be disappointed.

    A game that sucks (Blood)
    8
    • Pros
    • Very configurable experience. You can host your own local games with friends, do it over the internet or rent servers to keep the world rolling when you are not online.
    • Good feeling of progression. Every new bit of equipment and every new machine and aparatus for your castle make you feel the growth of your power level.
    • The game has gone through a lot of changes for the good, so it's clear the devs are listening to the community.
    • The night and day cycle makes for a different challenge if you don't plan your escapades well. Or if you want an extra challenge you can always try some of the bosses during the day and fight the bosses and the sunburn!
    • Cons
    • Has the same problem that every survival has with configurable experiences. Takes a bit of time and min maxing to find the sweet spot for me. (it has some presets but none are good for ME, but that's more a ME thing)
    • The DLCs, even though are just aesthetic stuff, are kinda pricy. Not big fan of pay DLC.
    • Some crafting can take a long time until you have the appropriate combination of floors. But even then some crafts take a loooong time.

If you like vampires, survival games and the feeling of growth of many rpgs this game is for you. I can’t talk about the bigger picture and about populated servers here because… Well because I’m a cave gremlin (skeleton) and I don’t play much onto the multiplayer part, I play by hosting my own solo game.

And it’s GREAT, and I mean it with all caps. I enjoy exploring the different areas (NOT you cursed forest, not you), getting new materials and learning new crafts and earning new powers that make me a more fearsome bloodsucking fiend.

The character creation is a highlight for me, you have plenty of faces and hairdos to create the most freakish of freaks and i love that (Without getting into some Ark territory of freakish, ok? That’s just a bit too much but here you cannot edit your body shape)

The game starts being, let’s say, closed and small since you cannot go too far away from your base or the place you have set up camp without getting your ass handed back to you and therefor every time you grow i power it feels great to go back to the creatures and people that bullied you and get in there for PAYBACK TIME.

Graphics are nice, art direction is superb, gameplay feels fluid and abilities and movement respond as expected (sometimes I would like to have more dash charges, but it’s not such a big deal that I’d take that as a con). Crafting is a bit slow but you can change config for the server to make things a bit faster (specially recommended if you play solo, not like solo in a populated server but solo as in for yourself, like I do)

Overall fun game, the ost is great too!

I can’t really complain or praise the online community because I haven’t set foot in any open server, but the single player experience has been interesting and fun.

    Oakveil Overhaul
    9
    • Pros
    • More fluidity and content
    • Added mob prisoners
    • Even with new content, it's not overwhelming
    • Cons
    • Some bosses feel unnecessarily nerfed
    • A lot of the game is FAFO (if intentional, it's not entirely a bad thing--just rough)
    • Slow access to certain weapons/fighting styles

The game overall feels a LOT more fluid and easy to progress in the Oakveil update than it had been previously. There are more mob types as well as bosses, along with the new area and content. Progression still has some plateau points, but they feel more purposefully placed to give the player a break from grinding bosses and to turn to collecting blood, moving bases, obtaining servants, etc. My only complaint or gripe is how long I have to wait to unlock the slashers. I do enjoy the increase in weapon and fighting style choices, but as someone who is partial to the slashers, it’s a bit perturbing.

    • Pros
    • Building a castle slaps – I didn’t know I needed a vampire base-building sim in my life, but here we are. Interior decorating while dodging sunlight? Peak gaming.
    • Combat is fast and juicy – The spells are snappy, the boss fights are challenging, and the animations are surprisingly smooth. Bonus points for turning into a wolf, bat, or bear like some gothic Animorphs fanfic.
    • Progression feels rewarding – Every boss unlocks something useful (gear, abilities, new crafts), so it doesn’t feel like a pointless grind. You really feel like you're rising (get it?).
    • Co-op chaos – Playing with friends turns the whole game into a vampire sitcom. One minute you’re fighting werewolves, the next you’re arguing over where to place the blood altar.
    • Cons
    • Sunlight mechanics are kind of rude – I get it, I’m a vampire. But the sun hits different in this game. Like, "surprise one-shot if you take a wrong step" different.
    • Early game grind – The start can be slow, especially solo. Lots of running, chopping trees, smelting ore... it’s not bad, just a bit of a drag until things pick up.
    • PVP can be brutal – If you’re on a public server, there’s always that one clan of sweatlords who treat the map like their personal yard. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

So I booted up V Rising thinking it’d be a fun little vampire game. Next thing I know, it’s 3 AM, I haven’t touched my homework, and I’m emotionally attached to a castle made of bones and stone bricks. No regrets.

V Rising is like Valheim and Diablo had a gothic vampire baby—and it’s teething on my GPA. You wake up as a weak little Dracula wannabe, hiding in the shadows and punching trees, and end up a full-blown nightlord with a blood fountain and minions. Classic college glow-up.

A+ is more than just blood type
    9
    • Pros
    • Combat is action packed
    • Combat feels like it matters
    • Brutal difficulty is BRUTAL and very challenging, but rewarding
    • It's a massive open world
    • The different biomes feel different
    • Cons
    • Feels like the vampire form runs too slow

V Rising delivers a thrilling and fluid combat experience that perfectly blends action RPG and survival mechanics. The combat feels weighty and impactful, especially on BRUTAL difficulty. With a strong emphasis on positioning, dodging, timing and skill-based ability usage. Each weapon type—whether it’s swords, axes, or longbows—has its own distinct playstyle and special attacks, adding variety to engagements. Close and personal, or ranged and dangerous, V Rising has options for everyone.

What truly shines is the game’s ability system. With a range of vampiric powers and spells to mix and match, combat remains dynamic and adaptable. Whether you favor high-mobility dashes, life steal mechanics, or explosive AoE attacks, there’s a satisfying depth to experimenting with different builds. Boss fights, in particular, demand quick reflexes and strategic ability usage, making victories feel rewarding.

Overall, V Rising nails the balance between fast-paced action and tactical decision-making, making every battle a joy to sink your fangs into.

    Great open-world survival
    9
    • Pros
    • Original entry in the survival genre
    • Lots of crafting and things to do
    • Challenging and fun
    • Many hours of play
    • Good performance on PC
    • Cons
    • You can't build anywhere
    • The world is not randomly generated
    • Exploration is somewhat limited to your level as enemies that are two or more levels higher will insta-kill you.
    • Lack of history

It’s a great open-world survival game where you take on the role of a vampire who starts with practically no powers or weapons. The sun is your worst enemy, posing a constant danger… until you encounter various formidable bosses that will be a real challenge if you’re not properly prepared. The world isn’t randomly generated, but it offers a vast and immersive space to explore, filled with secrets and surprises that allow you to get wonderfully lost in its depths. It features numerous sectors or biomes, each with distinct mechanics and varying difficulties that keep the gameplay engaging.

You survive in the world by healing yourself with the use of blood you obtain from different types of enemies, each type of blood will grant you various stats that can be very useful. The higher the percentage of purity of the blood you took, the better the stats percentages will be. You can also transform into different types of animals that will be useful for collecting materials, accessing different parts of the map or simply traveling faster.

On the downside, you can’t build just anywhere; there are specific designated areas for constructing your base. However, there are plenty of crafting options and a wide variety of decorative items to satisfy the needs and preferences of every player. Combat is dynamic and varies significantly depending on the weapon you have equipped. Each class possesses unique moves and powers that may or may not be useful against different bosses and enemies, adding layers of strategy to the gameplay.

Most enemies are well-balanced according to your level, but even if you’re at the same level, some will prove to be quite challenging, requiring you to rely on potions or other strategies to win. The incentive to defeat these enemies is to obtain more crafting materials, weapons, and armor, which will increase your character’s level—there’s no XP gain from farming.

Additionally, special events occur periodically, requiring you to fight some bosses again, and defeating them can yield rare weapons that will help you level up quickly. Overall, this game captures the essence of survival and exploration, making every session a unique adventure filled with challenges.

    The best Vampire Lord experience
    8
    • Pros
    • Blends elements of survival, crafting and roleplaying seamlessly
    • Great amount of replayability
    • Different modes to approach the game with friends or against them
    • Rewarding exploration system, with day and night cycle
    • Broad group of different abilities and blood related powers
    • Cons
    • Steep difficulty curve for new players
    • Building your castle is really expensive
    • Crafting process for items can be tedious and long
    • Not the best experience if you are just a singleplayer enjoyer
    • Most abilities are cooldown-based abilities, so you have to be patient when using them

Since its Early Access this game has been one that I really liked based solely on the themes and aesthetic. Gothic, vampire lord that has his own castle and can customize it based on the blood of your enemies really sold it to me. To me it successfully blends elements of survival, crafting, and action RPG. Its rich narrative, engaging gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals, and immersive sound design create an experience that is both challenging and rewarding. I would just prefer that the singleplayer experience had more weight behind it, as the game is made for multiplayer in mind to experience it at its best

    • Cons

V Rising is a thrilling mix of survival and vampire lore.

As a newly awakened vampire, you’ll build your castle, hunt for blood, and fight to survive in a rich, gothic world.

The graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is addictive 🙂

Crafting, battling, and exploring are well-balanced, keeping you hooked.

It’s not perfect, though, the game can be grindy, and the difficulty spikes can be frustrating, but if you love vampires and survival games, V Rising is a must-try !

    • Hunting
    • Pvp and PvE
    • Base building

It’s too good for a game. Of course, I couldn’t say no to the experience of conquering the world as a vampire.
In V Rising, where we wake up as a vampire centuries later, we first try to regain our power by hunting for blood in the nearest area. We will build our castle, obtain different powers and skills from bosses, collect resources for days and nights, go to every part of the land, find servants, and conquer the world of people.
Before we get into all this, we need to decide what kind of vampire we will be. Although we have no choice other than gender regarding face and body, very sweet choices await us regarding skin, eye and hair color and hair style. We are now ready to wake up, whether in our own world or in the multiplayer world.
At the end of centuries of deep sleep, of course, we open our eyes, thirsty for blood, and begin to search for a living creature to feed on. At first glance, we naturally encounter a cemetery and plenty of skeletons. Fortunately, we come across a few mice among the gravestones and come to our senses.
There is a time-based craft system in the game, that is, you put the basic materials into the appropriate machine and the basic materials turn into usable materials, but this process happens in real time and continues when you exit the game. Of course, at least 1 player must be playing in the world you are playing in so that the world remains open. The game is based on crafting. During the time I played so far, I entered combat for crafting and looked for materials for crafting. That is, my main goal was craft. I never entered combat for nothing. I did not collect materials for nothing. In crafting, I constantly came across new things and went on an adventure to do new things. The game went by.
Since you are a vampire, you have to drink blood. If you do not feed at certain intervals, you will die. There are different types of blood you feed on. Animals fed with animals gain passive powers. Not only that, the quality of the blood you feed on is also important. If it is low quality, you reach low level passives. If it is high quality, you reach high quality. Apart from this, the sun burns you, so you put a protective fire in your house. If you put the bones you collected inside and burn them, it will provide you with protection, but since this is a temporary solution, your house will need a roof later, but it may take some time to reach the roof, depending on the size of your house, because the house is completely made of stone walls and stone floors. You have to line it up and then it automatically places the roof.
There are various armor sets, you can find research books from the enemy camps around. These are a bit difficult to find, but there is a variety of armor and they even provide a different bonus when you wear the set, and I liked their appearance. There are a lot of things that can be explained and as a result, I liked them. It’s perfect. It’s the Daywalker!

A game going beyond a Vampire theme
    8
    • Pros
    • Multiple difficulty options
    • Huge flexibilty for a player to change your server settings. You can increase building speed, resource yield etc. Essentially, you can control your own experience to your playstyle.
    • Play alone, play with friends, whichever you prefer, it's fine.
    • Progression is gear based, meaning you won't be stronger than a boss nor will you be too weak.
    • Many options for weapon be it ranged, melee or even magic.
    • The vampire theme is very well done. Especially the way blood is used in the game.
    • Cons
    • The game kinda struggles a bit in the late game. Especially cause of unlocking passive abilites. You can grind to unlock it, but why grind when you only have few bosses left?
    • Some of the bosses rely a bit too much on aoe attack or minion/summons. I would consider certain bosses to be harder than the final boss. So balancing is sometimes a bit all over the place.
    • Healing is capped during combat and it is also heal over time. Meaning, if you take multiple hits in a row, your hp bar gets small and now you can't heal to full health.
    • Many of the bosses are roaming the overworld. And more often not other mob will interfere in the fight which is tedious.
    • And of course. Durability loss. Now the rate of loss is low. But when you are just to a boss multiple times and your equipment is close to breaking, that feeling is rough.

First of all, Let’s start the review with my thoughts.

    (1) V Rising is a multiplayer/pvp focused base building, survival game. And I played this on solo on normal difficulty in a private server. So my review is not the best description of the game. But even then I enjoyed it so much that I feel like if I tried it with a friend or partner, I would have loved it more. So my score is purely from the perspective of someone who intentional played it alone cause I am used to playing single player and even then I scored it 8. So I would say it can only go up from there.

    (2) One of my main interest in this game was cause of the Vampire theme. But I never expected the game to do it so well that I really enjoyed the vampiric aspect. Here are some of things I did in the game as a vampire:
    – Of course hunt enemies/bosses. Understandable.
    – I can transfrom to wolf, bear, bat, human to disguise myself to buy stuff from merchants etc.
    – I can turn humanoid enemies to servant and I can send them to other territories in the map to gather resources. And the timer of this is ongoing even when I am offline. Meaning I can send the servants today to gather let’s say silver ore and then when I play tomorrow, I get free resources.
    – I can keep humanoid enemies as prisoners to harvest blood. And this is where I would like to talk about the blood system. In this game, the blood I get from feeding has a type(think of it as a class) and quality value. So a 100% quality Scholar blood gives me certain stat bonus like more spell dmg but 100% quality Warrior blood gives me different type of stat bonus. So I kept prisoner of different blood type with preferably high quality.
    – Now here is what I did to get high quality blood. I slaugtered an entire village every night so that higher blood quality would spawn. If that doesn’t sound a barbaric vampire, then I don’t know what will.

    (3) The flexibility of player control. I have to include this. I have rarely seen a game where it allowed so much modification just in the menu. Like you as a vampire take sun dmg, what if you don’t want to sun dmg, what if you wish to move freely in daylight. Well, you can turn that off. What if this boss is too hard, well increase your spell dmg. What if you wish to fast travel while carrying certain resources that you normally can’t, then change it. It is taking too long to craft something, increase the speed. This type of freedom for a standard game, you would have needed console command or mod.

    (4) Now even though I praise the vampire aspect of the game, the game is still a base building/survival game. And I loved the base building aspect. It beautiful, it works. It has extensive base building option and if you want more then you can get the dlc. Again the dlcs are purely cosmetic. So you can enjoy the main game without buying a dlc too.

    (5) Bosses rely on aoe and summon a bit too much. So balancing feels way off. But the boss quality is good & difficult.

    All in all, highly recommend.

V Rising - Worth a bite (with some issues)
    7
    • Pros
    • Satisfying combat
    • Cool Graphics
    • Challenging bosses
    • Good base building
    • Works well on Steam Deck
    • Cons
    • Confusing start
    • Not many special ability slots

This is a refreshing take on a genre that’s had plenty of different takes on it by now. The core gameplay loop is fun and hunting down bosses is satisfying and often gives you good rewards.

I played this game on Steam Deck and it ran really smoothly, graphically it’s a visually pleasing game and you move through the world in a satisfying way.

What brought my score down for me was the impending feeling of grinding that’s palpable after a few hours playing the game. I spent a long time just running from one part of the map to the other (build your base in the middle of the map, like I didn’t).

Biggest problem for me was there are cool abilities to choose from but you only have a few slots to equip them! I really wanted to pick from 9-10 abilities rather than 2-4.

Otherwise, I do think this is worth a try if you like the genre, it offers a much needed fresh perspective!

    • Pros
    • A balanced challenge
    • Effective resource management
    • Surprises in progression within certain biomes
    • Ambiance and atmosphere
    • Cons
    • Very challenging in solo
    • Its new price

V Rising is an excellent survival and adventure game. The game is surprising at first with its day/night mechanic because, yes, we are a vampire and vampires burn in the sun. But as you progress, you realize that your character gains power and resilience.

The game is balanced in terms of difficulty if you play with others; for me, I found it very challenging solo.

The construction of the castle is very enjoyable with plenty of customization options to make a castle that reflects our vampire.

The progression is well-executed. It allows advancement in the game by defeating certain bosses and unlocking new recipes and powers. I like games where some resources that seem abundant and uninteresting at first take on a whole new dimension later in the game.

In summary, V Rising is an excellent survival and adventure game where you can spend a certain number of hours.

    Ffull PvP survival loot box
    7

V Rising is a full PvP survival loot box with the option of PvE servers or solo inventory drops. Take on groups of 4, 2 or play alone. Upgrade your castle and become the lord of the vampires. »

There are different types of official servers, in addition to the possibility of creating our own servers and games with rules adapted to the way we like best.

    The official server modes are:
    – PvE: Purely PvE servers, without PvP or settlement of castles between players. Recommended for 1-4 players.
    – PvP: Servers with PvP between players. When we die we will lose what we have in our inventory but not the equipment or tools. Recommended for 3-4 players.
    – PvP+: full loot from PvP Servers. When we die we will lose everything our character has. Recommended for 4 players.
    – PvP Duo: Similar to PvP servers but only allow 2 people per clan (group). Recommended for 1-2 players.

The clans are for a maximum of 4 players, which function as a group and allow us to see the rest of the members on the map, share permissions in the base, not hurt each other, etc.

We can build our castle almost anywhere on the map, although there are certain elevations scattered around the world that are more interesting when it comes to defending our castle.
The construction is similar to other games: There is a core which we must feed to prevent our structures from “expiring” and breaking, and an area that we can expand as we improve our core. Within the construction area we can place walls, floors and structures.

The character level depends on the weapons and armor we have equipped and the skills are unlocked by killing bosses scattered around the world. The skills that we will use in combat are defined by the type of weapon we carry, a jump/dodge, two active skills and a definitive one. From the skill book we can change our skills whenever we want, as long as we are not in combat.

In a very summary way this is what you will find in the game, at the moment I am really liking it and I think that if you like this type of games you should try it.

V Rising: An Immersive Journey into Darkness

    • Pros
    • Immersive Atmosphere
    • Variety of Environments
    • Excellent Graphics and Soundtrack
    • Diverse Gameplay
    • Castle Construction
    • Cons
    • Steep Learning Curve
    • High Resource Requirements
    • Laborious Progression System

Hey there, vampire enthusiasts who prefer pointy teeth over spooky vibes but won’t run away from a garlic bulb! Ever thought about Dracula from Hotel Transylvania and Edward from Twilight teaming up for a cool party right in the heart of the night? Well, forget about romantic bats and theatrical floating capes because V Rising is here to redefine our perception of virtual vampires. So, strap on your capes, adjust your nighttime sunglasses, and follow me into this bloody adventure where vampires step out of the shadows and reclaim their spot at the top of the food chain.

V Rising is much more than just a survival hack-and-slash. Picture yourself as a vampire waking up from a centuries-long nap, leaving behind snores worthy of a nocturnal symphony. But here, the mission is clear: vengeance against humans and the reconstruction of your kingdom demand much more than a simple cup of warm blood.

V Rising transcends the boundaries of a mere survival game to immerse you in a captivating world of darkness and blood. From the get-go, the gothic and enchanting atmosphere takes you on a journey through diverse environments, from lush green forests to underground crypts, picturesque villages, and ancient ruins. Exploration itself becomes an adventure where every nook hides secrets and dangers.

Hunting is a crucial aspect of the gameplay, forcing you to track humans and supernatural creatures to quench your thirst for blood and acquire new skills. But beware, sometimes you’ll get your butt kicked by certain bosses, and without skill upgrades, you might feel a bit stuck in the game. The combat, dynamic and demanding, requires mastering vampiric spells and movement abilities to triumph over your enemies. The construction of your castle emerges as a crucial element in your progression, providing refuge against sunlight and a base for your conquests. Setting up production rooms to craft weapons and armor, chests for your treasures, and traps to fend off adversaries becomes an indispensable strategy.

V Rising delivers a high-quality audiovisual experience. Detailed and vibrant graphics, an immersive and enchanting soundtrack contribute to creating a captivating gothic and vampiric atmosphere.

However, behind its dark charm, V Rising isn’t without a few drawbacks. Some players might find a steep learning curve, especially in the early hours, which can be discouraging. Additionally, certain aspects of the progression system may feel a bit cumbersome, requiring a considerable time investment to unlock significant upgrades. Another downside is that various constructions, while crucial, sometimes demand a resource quantity that may seem excessively high, adding a layer of frustration to the gaming experience. Despite these challenges, the overall experience offers a captivating vampiric adventure for those willing to fully invest themselves.

In conclusion, V Rising offers total immersion in the vampire universe, albeit with a few imperfections. So, if you believe you have the makings of a Vlad the Impaler or the legendary Dracula, ready to reign over the night, don’t hesitate to don your cape, sharpen your virtual fangs, and dive fearlessly into this nocturnal gaming experience.

    Good vampire survival game

    • Pros
    • Great world to explore
    • Vampires with a twist
    • Build your castle
    • Day and night matters
    • You can play with others
    • Cons
    • Tech problems
    • Can be hard to learn for newcomers
    • Struggling to find resources
    • Combat feels clunky
    • Same old, Same old

V Rising is a visually enchanting game, offering a unique twist on vampire lore. The expansive open world is a sight to behold, from mystical forests to sun-scorched deserts. It breathes new life into survival games with strategic castle-building and defense against other players.

However, technical glitches like bugs and crashes disrupt the immersive experience. Navigating the game’s learning curve is a challenge due to the lack of a comprehensive tutorial. Resource scarcity introduces a grind, affecting the pacing of the game.

On the upside, the day-night cycle and multiplayer interactions add depth. Vampires shine at night, and alliances, battles, and trades keep the social aspect engaging.

Combat, the game’s core, falters with clunky mechanics. The risk of monotony emerges without diversified quests. In essence, V Rising has potential but needs refinement. Addressing technical issues, improving onboarding, and adding variety could transform it into a standout title.

Overall nothing really harm about the game i invite you to try it because it’s pretty good game !

    • Pros
    • Different mechanics from most standards Survival games
    • Satisfying combat
    • Easy to understand building
    • PvE/PvP
    • Great art
    • Cons
    • Slow updates

I was pleasantly surprised when I first played V Rising. It took some aspects of an aRPGs and threw them into a survival game. The combat is basic, but rewarding and satisfying in a way. The gear grind is pretty standard for a survival game.

Where the game shines for me is its mechanics. Blood you drink and how potent that blood is determines different aspects and stats for your characters. It’s definitely unique. And unlike most games, where night is usually a time to sit in your base and do things close to home, V Rising encourages you to play out your true vampire dreams and use the night to your advantage.

I never played on an open server, only a private one I hosted for a friend, but it was a lot of fun with a friend.

I hope we get some more updates soon, I’ve been looking for a reason to dive back into V Rising.

Unleash your inner vampire : V Rising
    10

It’s been a while since I’ve played V Rising, to be honest the last time I’ve played it was when they released Gloomrot, but still it is too good of a game not to say something.

First off, the visuals are awesome. The dark, Gothic landscapes, terrifying creatures and the eerie night sky – it’s like stepping into a vampire’s dream. The art style is perfect at least to me as I love this low-poly kind of style, every corner of the world was made with great attention even to the smallest details.

Regarding the gameplay, it is a really smooth experience and you’ll get used to the controls in no time. There are too many great aspects to choose from, so I’ll try to keep it brief: awesome vampiric powers – check, cool vampiric castle – check, undead horse that you can summon – check, undead servants – check, epic boss fights – check and most importantly bat form – check! Even though at the beginning it may feel a little overwhelming, V Rising actually keeps it simple, making it a game where you can unleash your inner vampire with ease.

If all of this hasn’t interested you in the game, how about this: V Rising is a multiplayer game so you can team up with your friends in your own private game, or you can choose from a bunch of official servers. There are different types of servers that you can choose to suit your game style, servers such as PvP and PvE, they also come with a bunch of different settings.

To keep it one hundred percent real, there is one thing that bothers me, which is offline raiding. If you like to play PvP like me, you know how frustrating this can be, logging in to your favorite game after a long day only to realize all of your stuff is gone and your base is destroyed, to me there is nothing worse. But the good thing about this is that you can find servers that have set a specific time for raiding so you know when to expect it, and even if you aren’t able to log that day each player gets a chest that can store some stuff and it can not be raided, also another good thing is that you can fix your whole castle in a couple of seconds for free.

All in all it is a great game that I would recommend to everyone at least once, so what are you waiting for, embrace the night, stay out of the sun and happy hunting!

    • Combat feels limited despite weapon types that handle differently

Really enjoy the game, despite its flaws. Mob density in later areas feels more tuned for co-op and there aren’t many stealth mechanics to compensate when playing solo.

A fun take on the survival genre and the mechanics are designed around making you feel like a vampire.

This game has a great combination of discovery / base building / farming and boss fights.

And in each respect it is fun to play.

I like the graphics style and the overall quality of the map and design. The crafting is not exaggerated and the inventory space is still enough.

The base building has great design.

The boss fights, are fun for most of the time, but are quite difficult.

I will say that the sun period can be frustrating sometimes. When you are exposed to the sunlight too long, you will take heavy damage and then die. This can be frustrating when you are in areas where there are almost no shadows.

Also, the game cannot be paused even when in single player. Because the sun and therefore the shadows in the game shift slowly and constantly, it can happen that you are killed by the sun if you are going afk for a few minutes. An option to pause the game while playing solo should be added.

The game is very difficult when you are entering a new region. The same is true for boss fights. However, there it is a good kind of difficulty. Every time I died, I either had not paid attention to the combos of the bosses or have not drunk my potions.

There is a lot of different spells and weapons variety. However, I find that most of the time ranged weapons (especially crossbow) and skills with movement speed are better than everything else, which takes the variety away somewhat.

Regarding Bugs, I have not found a lot. I would consider this game not to be early access. Fair amount of content to play.

9/10. I recommend getting it even when not on sale.

A game that won't let you down !
    9

This game is fantastic. I am not a big fan of hard boss fights, but the combat is so responsive I feel like when I am killed it was because of my mistakes and not mechanic BS. The progression in the game is extremely addicting, constantly teasing you with the next tier of gear or ingredients and keeps you moving through the areas of the huge map.

When it comes to moving around, the various forms are really great, and the scattered teleporters not allowing for transportation of certain items forces you to run where you need to go (you can always steal a horse if they are around, which is also fun).

There is no real story in the game so far, I get the original focus of this game was PvP and everything else around it is dressing… But some more story would have been nice for us PvE players. This gave me big Legacy of Kain vibes, but not having the nice narration from the character when he reaches important locations was a bit of a letdown.

I have very few complaints about this game, and they have to do with the castle building system. First, you need to build and upgrade a castle heart thing whenever you want to build a structure, but you are only allowed two hearts total. I can understand this limitation for PvP games, but in PvE I would have liked to be able to build a castle in each zone of the map. Not being able to take my upgraded castle heart to a new location means I need to spend a lot of resources upgrading a new one whenever I want to move.

This game has me hooked. I am really looking forward to updates and hope the game is a success and devs can keep adding content like No Man’s Sky has been doing.

    Addictive take on the genre
    9
    • Pros
    • Well thought out crafting and building system
    • Adaptable settings to fine tune the game to the perfect challenge for you
    • Cons
    • A bit linear

V Rising is a great take on the base building, crafting survival genre. The setting itself provides a great opportunity for interesting challenges and it’s just plain fun to build yourself up as the local Dracula.

The crafting system is great and can be finely tuned with server settings to increase or decrease the challenge and time commitment. This is my biggest pro as it makes the whole experience more accessible to casual gamers like myself.

I did find the combat experience a little linear, tracking almost exactly with recipe unlocks as certain items or skills were needed to beat them, although this may only be an early game issue.

There were also a few objectively better build sites which maybe detract from the hard choices that you might otherwise need to make about resources. This I expect is only a problem solo as PVP would provide the tradeoff in multiplayer.

I played this game solo so will not review the multiplayer aspects, although I understand this adds a whole new dimension to the experience but requires a more substantial time commitment.

    • multiplayer or solo
    • graphics
    • goods soundtrack
    • Cons
    • same equipment
    • too many crafting tables
    • a lot of raw content

A good game with an interesting plot, but if in more detail, then let’s go!!!

Imagine that you are playing games like Diablo. At the same time, the game does not directly give any specific goals. You need to survive in the open world as a vampire who wants to eat, who roasts in the sun, who is hated by everyone and who needs his own chic castle with a golden throne and gargoyles.

The most basic goal, of course, is the last one: you start building a castle and realize that in order to build your golden throne, you lack the technology of that very throne. And in order to create it, you need to kill that asshole and take away his knowledge of the throne. And in order to kill him, you need to kill him. By the way, he will just pass by your hut and most likely will kick your ass, because in order to defeat him you need to kill wo-o-o-o-o-he is that asshole. And he’s already been beaten by other assholes he bumped into on the road. Who knows when he’ll spawn next?

In fact, the game is not as linear in this regard as I describe it. You can beat absolutely any asshole with absolutely any equipment at any time. Purely theoretically, everything here is tied only to your skill. I will say even more: there are such assholes who deliberately have to skip past the list proposed by the game and beat more difficult opponents in order to open more powerful equipment and crush them with empty damage, if not skill and cunning. And that’s not the fact that it will help you. Yes, I’m talking about you, asshole Tristan!

There is an interesting mechanic with the castle: in order for it to continue to exist in the selected world (server), you need to constantly feed it with blood balls, which are mainly mined from opponents. You can’t beat your opponents. A kind of tricky server self-cleaning mechanic: the player does not enter the world; his castle goes out and collapses. One thing pleases, while your character (seemingly) is not erased and you can rebuild everything you need during a long break.

You can play both on the server and solo (using your computer as a server). You can build golden thrones with friends (one for all or each with a throne in different places), or you can still do it solo, albeit on a server. I will write more about this at the end of the review.

The world is really open. As soon as they let you in, you can literally stomp and build castles even in the most difficult of locations. And this is the game in which this idea is not too bad, as it seems at first glance. This idea is especially sweet due to the fact that you can build several cozy bases at once if you wish. Nothing in this regard holds you back.

There are no levels here and everything is tied to what equipment you wear, what blood you drink, what abilities you discover in yourself. Something in this regard is similar to Diablo III, if memory serves.

    Good EARLY ACCESS game
    8
    • Pros
    • Good combating system
    • Crafting is fun
    • Fun to play with friends
    • Cons
    • The exploration aspect and building is lacking

If you’re considering playing this game because you enjoy Valheim and desire a similar experience, I suggest reconsidering your decision. Anyone claiming that this game is akin to Valheim but with Vampires is completely mistaken, it’s because of the following reasons:

While it is a highly enjoyable game, its primary focus lies on combat, PvE, PvP, and extensive crafting. However, if you’re hoping to find something reminiscent of Valheim, you’ll likely be disappointed.

V Rising lacks in the exploration aspect. Although the map is substantial, it isn’t procedurally generated, resulting in a diminished sense of exploration and discovery. Furthermore, the top-down view characteristic of an action role-playing game also limits the exploration experience.

Base building exists, but it’s quite rudimentary. Don’t misunderstand me—building and expanding your castle in V Rising will consume a significant amount of your time. However, this is primarily done to increase its size, unlock new features, and perhaps decorate rooms. Unfortunately, the game offers very little creative freedom to craft your own unique architectural masterpieces. Your castle essentially consists of tiles, walls, wallpapers, and decorations. That’s about the extent of it. So, if you have a passion for constructing awe-inspiring structures, I recommend looking elsewhere, as this game won’t fulfill that desire.

This game caters to those who seek a survival experience with robust combat, encompassing both PvE and PvP aspects (with the latter being particularly notable). Although it can be played solo, it tends to become monotonous rather quickly, making it best enjoyed with a group of friends. Additionally, it boasts a solid crafting system, and considering it’s an early access game, it is genuinely worth the $20 price tag.

However, it’s crucial to understand what you’re purchasing. Don’t be misled by reviews proclaiming it as “Valheim with Vampires” because that description is far from accurate. Still a good game nonetheless.

    Fun for builders, including casuals
    7
    • Pros
    • Base Building
    • Bosses Fighting Bosses
    • Casual friends can easily join in
    • Cons
    • Mediocre Combat
    • You probably want friends to play with

At first blush, V Rising feels like a mediocre Diablo clone. Combat is repetitive, and enemy variety is passable. But castle building adds an addictive element that keeps you coming back.

Normally a Diablo clone says, “Go kill stuff, then kill some more stuff, and maybe grind for some rare drops.” V Rising usually doesn’t. Instead, your focus is on bosses who will unlock new powers or crafting stations. During the nighttime you’ll be out tracking the next boss to see if you’re strong enough to take them down, and during the daytime you’ll ideally be in your castle building new rooms or crafting upgrades. This pacing makes sure that the game never gets dull, even if it rarely feels great.

But it does have great moments. There’s nothing quite like watching two bosses go at it while you pray that you can swoop in for the kill. There’s at least one place where this happens naturally, and there are a few spots on the map where you can lure bosses to each other.

And if you have a friend (and the devs seem to expect you to), V Rising becomes so much more approachable. Have a casual friend who enjoys base building? Put them on castle duty, and when it’s time to hunt down a boss they can support with ranged attacks.

Personally, I came for the castles, and I stayed for the castles. How many other games let us play with good gothic architecture?

My favorite survival game of 2022
    9

For me, it captures the idea of an immortal vampire perfectly, from right after you awaken in the crypts, your nature is clear. You feast on mortals to savour the benefits of their blood, be it a worker to boost your gathering, a scholar to vastly empower your spellcasting, a brute to relish in the melee slaughter – you get the idea.

But, perhaps a boss ruins your day, or maybe the pesky sunlight leaves your great undead ruler-to-be a tad charred, in which case, get back to your grand castle. (Some of you might choose to just live with wooden walls, i suppose, to each their own.)

You could hunt for some good humans, scouring the streets for high end blood to bring back to your castle for your dark delights, be it imprisoning them in your own personal wineyard, or turning them into a vampire spawn/servant to roam your halls, guarding your castle or heading out on missions.

Not to mention the combat, which is the greatest i have had the pleasure to immerse myself in. Hunting powerful V-bloods to progress through the different tech stages, and unlocking powerful new spells that will allow you to greatly mix up your playstyle.

There is so much more that can be said about the game, so many fun things to do, Yet I think i have said all that needs to be said.

If you are still reading this review, give it a try. It is a fresh take on the survival setting, and it has completely consumed my free time.

I cant wait for updates, if this is only the early access, the launched product is going to be a sight to behold. If for some reason you do not feel it is worth the current cost, keep track of the game updates, the game is already a steal for the current cost.

It has a lot of fun weapons and spells, but much of the time, when you’re solo, you have to use the same “best” weapons and spells over and over, since everything relies on you alone. In co-Op you can be more relaxed and do fun stuff. But dying in this game solo is suuuch a huge pain and inconvenience that I’ve basically stopped playing in end game.

    • It's an open world game and you can explore anywhere.
    • Easy to learn game mechanics.. I like that the game doesn't interrupt you on tutorial messages that keep you from playing the game.
    • Lots of freedom. The game just lets to do what you want.
    • Abundance of different resources, loots, mobs.
    • You can manage your own castle and deploy decorative furniture, build alchemy stuff, farm beautiful gardens.
    • Well designed boss fights. A bit hard but acceptable.
    • Cons
    • Still in development (early access)
    • If you play for a long time, the server environment becomes unstable due to a memory leak,
    • Lack of character customization.
    • You have to manually fix server settings with a json file if you host a dedicated server

Personally, I wish this game supported Steam Workshop so I could easily add mods to the game for more decorative stuff like wallpapers, floors, statues, etc

    • Pros
    • Being able to upgrade your buildings.
    • Nice to get away from the Zombies.
    • You are a Vampire, that can be a wolf.
    • Natural progression crafting.
    • Cons
    • A little confusing on the blood boosts to begin with.
    • Griefers online PvP.
    • DLC content. Not a fan of paid DLC, to be honest.

Saw the game on Discord and thought I would take a look at it as i was looking for a change from the Zombie genre. Watched a few Youtube videos and took the plunge.

Played on a PvE server and enjoyed the new mechanics and the crafting system. First issue was when I logged out and came back an hour later and the Server I was on, had gone into Unstable mode and is still offline as i write this review. Worst bit is I cannot remove it from the list, so if you server hop expect to have a big list to troll through. But it’s EA and it’s been highlighted on their Discord to be fixed.

When you start it’s a little confusing as to where to start, but the Quest system is logical and it leads you in the right direction without feeling linear.
As you get into the game its satisfying when you get new Vampire powers from the V Npc’s and drain their blood to give you new Buildings or powers, etc.
The sun is a pain but it adds a slow down and feels natural and you need to pre plan where you are going during the day etc. A nice touch.

Overall, it’s an interesting game and worth a look if you are a Survival crafting gamer and are looking for a new genre away from the norm.

    Vampire Survival game
    7
    • Pros
    • Interesting take on the survival genre
    • Custom powers
    • Bosses drop good loot
    • A lot of points of interest
    • Cons
    • Building takes a lot of materials
    • You have to wait a long time for items to be done

V Rising is a survival game where you are a vampire.

The main difference between V Rising and other survival games is the way you feed your character and it flips your favorite time of day around.
Your vampire does not require food or water to survive like other survival characters. Instead, you need to drink the blood of your enemies.
There are different blood types and each gives special buffs to your vampire.
Since you are a vampire, the sun will burn you so you wanna hide in the shade and only go out during the night.

The map of V Rising is pretty large and filled with points of interest like bandit camps or cemeteries.
Humans and animals wander around the roads and some humans are stronger than others. The boss type enemies called v blood carries all drop a special building/crafting recipe when killing them. They also provide you with special powers. There are a lot of powers, you can have up to two powers at a time, but you can mix and match.

Building in this game is really expensive and making basic materials takes a little while to craft. However, the walls, floors and other buildings do look really cool so you can make a nice looking castle.

V Rising is primarily a multiplayer game, with pvp and pve servers. You can also host private servers for just your friends, or if you want to play alone you can host a private server as well and not invite people. (The private servers only run while the host is online, so it will not keep crafting or converting when they are offline.)
