Dreamside Interactive is about to release its first survival adventure Frozen Flame and here’s what you need to know about the game.

What to expect

Frozen Flame takes place in the world of Arcana, a mystical land once ruled by dragons. Now the planet is taken over by a being known as the Faceless, a foe with immense power who spreads waves of destruction across the land. It’s up to the player to harness the powers of primeval magic and defeat the faceless before he can turn the world to ice.

There are two different game modes to choose from upon starting Frozen Flame. The campaign can be played either solo or with up to 10 other players. In this mode, you will go through the world of Arcana and rid it of the faceless.

Survival mode is similar but has more of a focus on survival as the difficulty is set to very hard. Unlike the campaign, this can be played with up to 50 other people.

Both these game modes can be played either PvE or PvP depending on the server setting. At launch, the official servers will only support PvE as they are still refining the PvP aspect. But when setting up your own server players can enable PvP.

During your quest, you have to harvest resources by chopping down trees, picking plants for fiber, and mining rocks and ores to craft new tools and weapons. 

Level up by defeating enemies and trials that are found across the land. These trials task the player with different challenges. When leveling up the player receives an item called a frozen flame. These act as your skill points and they can be spent at an altar. There are plenty of active and passive abilities to choose from.

Explore multiple biomes of which four are in the game at launch. There are a number of side quests, some even leading you into dungeons where you will face off against strong opponents. 

If you want to test your strength, there are an assortment of monster camps dotted across the island. Most of these will be home to only a few low-level enemies, while others house a boss in them. These big guys have unique move sets that deal a lot of damage so make sure to prepare before entering.

In Frozen Flame, you have the ability to build your own house to store resources and have a place to craft stronger items.

Over the course of the game, the player will unlock different abilities. One of these is the ability to turn into a bird so you can fly around the map and different floating islands.

Frozen Flame can be played alone or with other players. When setting up a server, players can customize their world to fit their playstyle.

What comes after release

Frozen Flame’s story is currently incomplete and will be finished before going into full release. A final boss will be added at the end of the quest line. More biomes with tougher enemies and new mechanics will be added over the next couple of months.

A new mode is planned where you will be able to play with up to 100 players.

Frozen Flame will enter Steam early access on November 17, 2022 at 9 AM ET. The game will cost $29,99 with no plans on making it more expensive after full release.
