Honeycomb Reveals New Animals and Their Behavior

Do you like friendly tiny creatures or larger and more dangerous ones?

Frozen Way has shared new information about their bioengineering survival game Honeycomb in a recent development update. It revealed some alien animals and their behaviors, how resource gathering will work, and some status affects the player can get out on planet Sota7.

We can expect a variety of creatures on Sota7, from the tiny, adorable ‌water-loving Zuma to larger and more dangerous beings. Honeycomb had a playable demo last week during Gamescom. During this event, people got to see even more of the upcoming animals like the Camilas who like to mimic other creatures around them, including the player. The Woxes like to live near the water and can be found in packs, they do not like to be disturbed so better to leave them to themselves.

A lot of progress has been made on the biomes in the game. We previously got a glimpse at concept art for the Stem Sanctuary, Nenu Grove, and the Ash Woods. During this update, we got to see what they look like in-game, along with a working day/night cycle.

In order to gather certain materials, the player needs to get the right tools for the job. Ore chunks can be found sticking out of the ground, but it is too deep to pull it out. To obtain these, you need to craft a trowel and unearth the buried minerals.

As part of your job as a bioengineer, you can cut off the top of a plant and graft it onto another one with branch-cutting scissors. Combining them allows you to make plants that yield more fruit, for example. The scissors will also be used to harvest said fruit and vegetable, making it a multipurpose device.

The developers showed a few of the status effects the player could get during play, both good and bad. Some negative ones are starving, dehydrated, bleeding, or having a sprained ankle which slows you down. Most of these can be turned into positive effects as well. Well-fed, rested, and energy boost that you get from taking a stimulant will help you stay healthy and alive on this alien planet.
