Dune: Awakening Offers a Glimpse of Early and Late Game Features

From being lost in the sands to faction wars.

Funcom has just hosted an event that covers their upcoming book-inspired survival game, Dune: Awakening. They spoke about their passion for the project and shared some features that players can expect, both early and late in the game.

The evolution of the Dune franchise progressed from books to films and then to games. The developers over at Funcom are glad to create the next iteration in the Dune gaming scene as they take it to the MMO Survival genre, combining the characters from the books and the movies’ unforgettable vistas. Dune: Awakening is said to offer an immersive and vast sandbox environment, where players can become a part of the world and expand onto the story themselves.

In the Direct event, they unveiled a brand new game trailer, which offers a look of what players can expect on Arrakis. You will be able to craft your very own ornithopters and soar across dunes, learn techniques from the Great Schools of the Imperium, and set up unique personal outposts. However, players must always remember to beware of the sandworm. There are various types, like the massive ringworm from the movies. There are also smaller ones and even those are dangerous and can not be killed.

In the end-game, the MMO aspects shine through as factions fight for resources. The Landsraad system enables players to align with different groups to vote on issues that impact the entire world.

The building system allows players to create blueprints of their structures, which they can sell to others on the exchange, which gives builders a great role in the game’s economy. The building is done by placing down blueprints first so other players can help you gather the resources and build. To protect your base, you can generate a shield around it to ward off sandstorms and enemy players.

Combat in the game consists of a wide range of crafted weapons, gadgets, vehicles, gear, and abilities from the different Great Schools of the Imperium. To spice up faction wars, friendly fire is part of the game.

The game’s beta tests are currently in action, if you want to be part of it you might be in luck as the devs are looking to expand the number of players that can join. You can sign up for the tests on the official website.
