Star Drifters are about to release their new survival RPG, First Dwarf, into early access on Steam. Prepare to fight in a mech suit, build colonies, and survive against tainted enemies on the floating island remains of the planet Driftland.

The planet had been destroyed a long time ago during the mage war. This resulted in the land scattering apart, and it now consists of a bunch of floating islands. The conflict ended up extinguishing every race apart from the dwarves. Most of the tribes now live in a primitive state, and their resources are starting to run low. In an attempt to secure their future, they dispatched what they called the First Dwarf. His job was to explore other islands on a large airship and obtain the resources they needed to thrive once again. However, he never returned.

Many years later, you play as the First Dwarf’s son, Tru. Like your father, you are sent out on the same mission, accompanied by a dragon who provides you with the knowledge necessary to complete your task. You pack your things and set off. Unfortunately, the trip ends in disaster, and you crash-land on one of the islands.

After repairing your mech suit, you start collecting resources like wood from the trees or stones for crafting and construction. Building is an essential part of the game, and you have to construct a base that allows you to automate the gathering of basic materials as long as you provide it with power. The game uses a grid system for building, so you can easily slot buildings next to each other.

During the night, tainted monsters will attack your settlement in large numbers. To help protect your colony, you will need to set up turrets and other defensive structures to fight off the invasion.

As you embark on expeditions beyond your base, you can find ancient ruins that hold new crafting recipes and secrets lost to time. You will also encounter corrupted areas where the monsters originate. Cleansing these areas will purify the island and stop the attacks. When you find the necessary parts, you can rebuild the airship and continue your mission by building new colonies in different parts of the planet, and cleansing the islands of the tainted infection.

First Dwarf will be released on Steam into early access on the 19th of June. If you want to play together with a friend, you can, as multiplayer is supported from launch, both online and split-screen. According to the developers, we can expect the game to remain in early access for around 18 months. During this time, they will improve the co-op feature, add more islands, missions, and items to craft, and finish the story of the First Dwarf.
