Core Keeper: Everything You Need to Know About the 1.0 Release Update

Get ready to uncover the secrets of the core.

One of my personal favorite games in the last few years has been Core Keeper, a relaxing survival crafting game where you can explore an underground world, battle giant bosses, or build a massive base with plenty of decorations. It has been two years since the game launched on Steam in early access, and Pugstorm is now ready to take the next step with update 1.0, which will add a grim-looking biome, new bosses, two combat styles, and a PvP system.

The full release of Core Keeper is changing the game by adding a whole new world generation system and allowing you to share world seeds with other players. This means that some new features will only be available in newly created worlds, and the developers recommend starting a new world for the full experience. You will still be able to play your old early access worlds and explore the new biome and skills; however, in order to finish the game, you will need to restart. Old worlds will also be labeled as classic worlds, which functions both as a badge and an easy distinction between the 1.0 worlds and the early access worlds.

The latest Core Keeper update features two new combat styles: warlock and mage. Both of these can be leveled up to 100, similar to the other skills. Upgrading them will increase stats such as mana regeneration, damage, minion life, and attack speed.

These styles utilize the new magic system. Players will get a mana bar that can be replenished with various items found underground, such as the common glow tulip, which will finally have more uses. The update will also introduce new armor and weapons for these combat styles; additionally, some old items will be updated to work with mana. The mage skill will focus on magical abilities like fireballs, while the warlock skill will focus on summoning. Besides your pet, you will be able to summon minions to help you in battle.

The Passage is an eerie new endgame biome that can be found very far from the core. It is full of hazardous flora and otherworldly fauna. The floors are as gray as ash, and seaweed-like plants are growing in this area. Unlike other biomes, there are ominous green glowing plants, adding to the spooky atmosphere. In this new biome, a new resource known as Pandorium can be found, which can be used to craft endgame weapons and armor. Similar to the crystal caves, you can find altars that you can activate for a combat challenge.

Three new bosses have been added, Druidra, Cryodra, and Pyrdra. These are snake-like creatures that have to be summoned by placing a musical instrument in the correct location. Another heavily requested feature is PvP. This will finally be added so you can see which of your friends is the strongest. The admin of the server can toggle PvP on and off from the pause menu.

Core Keeper will launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch on August 27, 2024.
