Over a year since the 1.0 release, Smalland: Survive the Wilds is back with the game’s new biggest update. The Underlands adds a vast network of caves, which greatly expands the map size and brings new enemies, bosses, quests, and materials to mine.
Entrances to caverns have been added to multiple biomes, each with a unique look and feel depending on its place in the world. So, the tunnels in the forest will be more overgrown than the red and hot caves in the desert. In total, you can find these in three locations: the two mentioned before and another in the swamps.
New enemies inhabit the underground, such as cave spiders, and some appear in more powerful crystal forms. Similarly, the bosses in these subterranean areas are covered in crystals as well. Depending on the biome, you’ll find a different boss, like a whip spider or an albino scorpion.

Down in the depths, you will also find the new cavern crystal ores, which can be mined and have different colors depending on location. These gems are used in crafting and have a magical attribute. With them, you can make armor variants, totems, and magic items at the new crystal crafting table. Besides this, they’ve added a bow, potions, and crystal-inspired building structures, like a lamp or statue.
To get in and out of the deeper pits easier, the devs reworked how the grappling hook functions. It no longer requires hooks when swinging, but now uses up its durability when you use it. This makes it a bit more cost-effective to use and saves on inventory slots.
The new update for Smalland: Survive the Wilds is now available on PC and consoles. Are you going to check it out?
