A game worth a thousand words
    9
    • Pros
    • Content is rich
    • Weird interactions
    • Exploring
    • Cool & funny story
    • Many hours worth of fun game-time
    • Too many to list
    • Cons
    • Jump scaring little pests
    • Enemy AI is a little dumb sometimes

Abiotic Factor is one of those games that immediately gets it’s hooks into you, because it fully embraces player freedom. I started my first playthrough on Apocalypse difficulty with double enemy damage enabled, as a challenge from Gameoneer. This is where the games really shines. It lets you play your own way. Whether you want to carefully plan every move and sneak around like a ninja, experiment like a mad scientist, fight like a battle hungry barbarian, or just wander around asking “what happens if I do this?”, the game rewards curiosity.

Even though the story itself is technically linear, the way you approach it never feels restrictive. You can sneak your way through encounters and avoid enemies if you’re timing is good, which became VERY essential on Apocalypse difficulty, or go completely reckless with balls-to-the-wall-guns-blazing-hack-and-slash chaos. Both approaches feel viable, and the game supports them equally well. The freedom to adapt your playstyle is one of the great benefits.

What becomes very apparent the longer you play and deeper you get, is how thoughtfully and carefully designed everything is. The content feels deliberate, which of course, all content was made on purpose, but it feels like it has a purpose, not just filler. The pacing is smooth. The story feels like it moves forward, without holding your hand. “To escape, you need to activate the generator” and that’s it. You need to find a way to do it. The bits of lore surrounding the NPCs, enemies, strange locations, and hidden theories all add so much personality and mystery to the world. It constantly made me want to keep exploring just to uncover one more detail, open one more door, with the chance of another scary moment around every corner or discover some strange experiment hidden away in a forgotten corner of the facility.

The atmosphere deserves special praise too. With an art style that strongly reminds me of the old Half-Life games, mixed together with collaborations featuring worlds like Core Keeper and big big grubs, the game is so much fun. Blending nostalgia, sci-fi horror, absurd comedy, and survival crafting into one complete package. Oh, and don’t forget the soup recipes. And yes, you can make poop-soup. The mad scientist NPCs, strange creatures, dangerous labs, and weirdly charming humor all work together perfectly.

After 134 hours in a single playthrough, I can confidently say this game was worth every cent spent, every second invested, every laugh it gave me, and every scare it managed to pull off. Go ahead and enjoy it for yourself — but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

A great game with a lot of content
    7
    • Pros
    • Old hardware support
    • Good rewarding progression
    • Co-op with a narrative
    • Cons
    • Complex and challenging crafting
    • Hard if playing solo
    • Crashes

This game is perfect for a group of friends who would sit for hours and would love to understand everything. I love how there are a lot of things to do, from base defense to micro-organizing objectives while progressing to the main goal, it’s pretty hard for new players who never played survival games before but it’s a perfect game for survival game veterans for a group of friends with at least 3 players.

A solid and hilarious survival experience
    10
    • Pros
    • The game has a mix of retro FPS graphics with new survival mechanics
    • There's a lot of exploration to be done in the facility
    • Extensive crafting
    • Varied
    • Sometimes difficult
    • PvE encounters
    • A lot of mysteries to be studied in Abiotic Factor
    • Cons
    • The game has a slow start and it take some time to show its surprises for you. My tip is just keep discovering, you will find some great surprises!

I had blast with Abiotic Factor. Played with two friends and we explored and ventured together into the depths of the facility. It’s a rounded game, with many levels and story to unfold. You can “finish” it. If you’re a fan of Half-Life, Grounded or like playing coop survival games that you can chill and have a good time, Abiotic Factor is for you! A must play for survival games enthusiasts!

    Fantastic Lo-Fi Survival Adventure
    9
    • Pros
    • Will run on a potato
    • Storytelling and pacing is fantastic
    • Survival elements aren't punishing for noobies to the genre
    • Dedicated server works great
    • Blueprint discovery system is awesome
    • Cons
    • Could use some Quality of Life enhancements
    • Would like to see some more stats with activity-based leveling

I can’t say enough good things about this game. As a veteran gamer since the early 90s this game gives me so much nostalgia for the by-gone era of gaming, while bringing in some of the best gameplay loops of modern games. I really love the way blueprints/recipes are discovered in this game, and how combat skills evolve simply by engaging in more combat. I’d love to see this expanded upon to other aspects of the game as your playthrough evolves. The environments, storyline, and overall experience is just fantastic, and I can recommend the game to anyone looking for an adventure unlike any other survival/crafting game they’ve played before.

    • Cons
    • Outdated graphics by modern standards

Every so often, a game comes along that feels like a true hidden gem – something that quietly slips under the radar, yet delivers an experience so engaging that it becomes impossible to put down. Abiotic Factor is one of those games. It’s a survival title that, at first glance, doesn’t scream cutting-edge graphics or AAA production values. In fact, the visual presentation is modest, almost humble, especially when compared to mainstream titles in the same genre – like grounded or enshrouded. But as any seasoned gamer knows, graphics aren’t everything. Abiotic Factor proves that heart, creativity, and rock-solid mechanics can outshine even the flashiest visuals. I’ll be honest: it took me multiple attempts to really appreciate what Abiotic Factor offers. My first two tries left me underwhelmed. I bounced off the game quickly, unable to find that initial hook. However, on my third attempt, I decided to give it a real shot – to approach it with an open mind and without expecting the typical survival tropes of endless farming, constant hunger bars, and repetitive base building. That decision changed everything. The moment I embraced Abiotic Factor on its own terms, I discovered something extraordinary: a survival experience that thrives on exploration, mystery, and adaptability.

When you hear “survival game”, certain expectations immediately come to mind: chopping down trees, mining for ores, crafting elaborate structures, and fending off hunger and thirst meters. Abiotic Factor flips that formula on its head. Instead of focusing on tedious resource farming, it emphasizes discovery, experimentation and adaptability. There’s an underlying story, a sense of progression and most importantly, meaningful reasons to explore beyond mere survival. This isn’t just another sandbox game that lets you build a house in the woods. Abiotic Factor is about unraveling secrets, tinkering with gadgets and finding creative solutions to environmental hazards. It feels more like an immersive simulation combined with survival mechanics, borrowing elements from Half-Life’s sense of mystery and Don’t Starve’s emphasis on player agency.

One of the standout aspects of Abiotic Factor is the transparency and dedication of its development team. They actively engage with the player base, listen to feedback and release timely updates. This level of communication fosters trust and creates a positive ecosystem where players feel heard.

Abiotic Factor is not a game that reveals its briliance immediately. It’s a slow burn – one that rewards patience, curiosity and willingness to embrace something different. It’s not the flashiest survival game, nor is it the most visually stunning. But in terms of depth, creativity and replayability, it punches well above its weight. If you’re tired of the same old survival grind and crave a game that challenges you to think, experiment and adapt, Abiotic Factor deserves a spot in your library. Once it hooks you, it’s nearly impossible to put down.

    • Crafting
    • Map design
    • Funny dialogues
    • Fun and engaging
    • Cons
    • Very little guidance, you are on your own in this game

I was in my survival gaming phase when I spotted this game and decided to give it a try. At first, the early hours were tough and a bit annoying, but I kept going. Once I learned how to play, the game was still challenging, but it became fun and engaging. I really liked the map design, which was a big reason why I played for so long.

    • Online co-op
    • Cool crafting system
    • Variety of weapons and crafts
    • Plenty of game time
    • Cons
    • Graphics are not that great
    • It has some perfomance issues sometimes

Abiotic Factor is a game that combines elements of survival and strategy. The world is very challenging and it really tests the player in terms of survival.
Overall, Abiotic Factor offers a mix of strategy and ecological management, testing your thinking and instincts.
It’s also similar to Half-Life which I loved to play 🙂
The crafting system is very good, showing you blueprints and where you can build them, making it easier for you to craft something.
The gameplay is very simple and easy to learn and get the hang of it.
You can craft various things and the crafting system is not complex at all.
You have a variety of skills that you can improve and get better and that’s a good thing because it doesn’t let you get bored so easily, instead you are looking forward to something every time you play and setting goals and such.
There is a plethora of things out there that you can do and see, especially monsters.
The character are funny looking but funny in a good way..
I really like the dimension style gameplay, it kinda reminds me of Stranger Things show.
You also have negative and positive characteristics that you can choose from and apply points into them depending on what you choose and how well skilled of character you wanna have.
    “Spoiler alert”
Power goes off at night so make sure you are prepared.
The devs I believe really got inspired by the Half Life game because it presents it with a lot of similar characteristics from that game, so if you had fun playing Half-Life you will surely love this one too.
It’s a very fun game especially when you play with friends because of all the things that are going on with monsters and the whole atmosphere especially when the power goes off!!
    Funny dialogues and SCARY MOMENTS!!
So I absolutely recommend this game and you guys will have fun!!

This game is interesting and satisfying to explore! The monsters have unique designs and vulnerabilities! The storyline is humourous, intriguing and mysterious, everything goes at a good pace! The characters are charming. The game is fun to learn and has a big database in the journal with the maps you collect, characters you meet, and ideas of things to craft! I love the supernatural theme and otherworldly-dimension atmosphere!

I think one of the things that most players think and realize is that the game is a mixture of Half Life + Project Zomboid + Lethal Company + Valheim. It beautifully takes everything from survival, adventure, and crafting mechanics from these types of games. Especially if you are familiar with the Half Life series and still can’t get enough of the series, you should definitely play it.
If you start the game directly with the Tutorial, the story will be more explanatory for you. To summarize, the events start immediately on your first day as part of the GATE Research Base. Before you can go to your workplace, they send you to another place where you have no authority due to security reasons. You decide what to do from there and the story takes shape accordingly. You proceed to the GATE Research Base by choosing one of the 9 specialization areas you want. Each job you choose has different “starting character points”. You spend these in the next stage, which is the process of determining your character. In addition to the “positive” characteristics that can affect your game, there are also “negative” characteristics that you can choose, depending on your points of course. While the positive ones spend your points, the negative ones earn points.
Survival elements are quite sufficient and plentiful. After discovering how to cook in the game, you experience enlightenment in the game. Cooking is of great importance in the game. Especially soups. You can make more than one meal with more than one item in the game.
A game where you cannot restore health with classic bandages. You can only use bandages if you are bleeding. Apart from that, you need to be able to do Healing Syring. Or you need to be able to find it by looting. We can also add another option, resting. These increase healing effects.
The crafting system in the game is in a very good state for me. I hope this logic is not broken, or at least it is improved. The good thing is that when you can improve your work table, you can craft without even being on your person using your items in a certain area.
When it is night in the game, the electricity in the facility always goes out. This is why the currents coming from the sockets disappear. For this, you need to store power in your tiny batteries in the morning.
The game tries to present you the story like a live stage presentation of Half Life. Environmental designs, interactions, NPCs, the area we are in, the areas we encounter. Portal attacks, portal slits that open to the world in an uncertain way.. The people who made this game must really be Half Life addicts. AMAZING!
Personally, it was the most different idea survival game I have ever played. Valheim would come before this for me. But this game is something completely different..

    • Pros
    • Unique base and survival game
    • Can play co-op and multiplayer
    • Brilliant story and crafting system
    • Character creation looks like Project Zomboid, if you have played this game
    • A highly interesting sci-fi with some humor
    • Cons
    • Very little guidance, so you have to explore the game with your own creativity
    • Some bugs and glitches e.g. crashes
    • Needs some balance if playing solo

Overall, Abiotic Factor is a unique and fun survival game that enjoyable to play with your friend with different roles, skills and abilities. The game can feel oppressively hard early on when it comes to combat, at the very least if you’re playing solo. Even this game has bugs, I try not to judge a game’s bugs too harshly in early access.

    • Pros
    • Incredible crafting
    • Funny dialogue
    • Engaging story
    • Potty mini game
    • Cons
    • Jumping is tough

When I heard that this game is like Subnautica mixed with Half Life, I was all in. This game has somehow flawlessly created a vibe that fluctuates between comical and horrifying. The dialogue and art style make you laugh, while the power outages and creatures roaming the halls (and other areas) make you scream in terror. I can’t recommend this game enough. If you enjoy crafting, dangerous entities chasing you, and laughing at characters who are ridiculously delusional about the situations they’re in, this is the game for you.
