System Era Software released the most game changing update for their famous planet hopping base building game ASTRONEER. This new patch brings custom games to the game to spice up the gameplay. It allows customizing your experience from basic changes for progression to totally new features like permadeath or changing your starting planet. 

Creating a custom game

When loading up the game, players will see a new option on the main menu to choose from. This brings you to the custom game settings, where you can tweak any aspect of the game however you want. There are a couple of presets to work from, or you can create a completely new game. Once you have created the perfect set of options, you can hit save, and it will give you a share code. You can post this code online or share it with friends, so they can use your settings without having to go through the hassle of setting it up themselves. These codes work for both PC and console. The new preset you made will also be saved onto your account, so if you have another computer, all you have to do is log in and it will be there.

What you can change

As stated before, you will be able to turn off respawning, creating a hardcore-like experience where if you die you lose the world. If you want to take it a step further, you can also turn off your starting shelter and change your starter planet to a more difficult one. 

Not all of these settings are there to make a more difficult experience. Others can give you a head start, starting the player with items from the start. These can only be given in sets and are categorized into different tiers. You can change the number of bytes you start with for upgrades or to boost how much power devices produce or consume. They even let you turn off oxygen altogether for people who just want to explore the world without having to worry about running out of air.

There are some settings that will be useful for people who want to create different kinds of challenges. You can disable research groups, change the gravity of a planet, or reduce or increase the number of POIs and puzzles found in the world.
