Chronicles: Medieval Reveals Large-Scale Battles in First Gameplay Trailer

Brutal realism takes center stage in this medieval sandbox.

Chronicles: Medieval returned to Summer Game Fest 2026 with its first proper gameplay trailer, giving players the best look yet at the large scale battles at the center of the medieval sandbox RPG.

The new footage focuses on what the studio has been building behind the scenes over the past year. Hundreds of soldiers can be seen clashing across the battlefield, with infantry lines breaking under cavalry charges and arrows flying across the field. Chronicles: Medieval is built around the idea that players are both commander and fighter, so battles are not just something to watch. They are something to take part in directly, with real time orders, formations, and close combat all working together.

Players will be able to lead troops while still fighting in the thick of the battle, moving from one role to another as the situation changes. Longbowmen, men at arms, crossbowmen, cavalry, and other units each have their own purpose, and the game pushes players to think about timing and position as much as raw force. The result is meant to feel like a living battlefield, where control and survival depend on quick choices.

The trailer also introduced a new voice to the project. Lars Mikkelsen is playing Johannes Gutenberg in Chronicles: Medieval, and he will narrate parts of the journey players take through the game world. The studio says more about the character will be shared later, but his inclusion adds another layer to a game that is already leaning into drama and history.

Alongside the battle reveal, the team also offered a first look at the Holy Roman Empire, expanding the game beyond the familiar England and France setting often linked to the Hundred Years’ War. The studio has made clear that Chronicles: Medieval is not meant to be a strict history lesson or a direct recreation of that conflict. Instead, it is building a medieval sandbox inspired by the politics, war, and tensions of the period, giving players room to shape their own story.

That world is meant to feel grounded and alive, with changing factions, roaming enemy groups, and unexpected events shaping the road ahead. The developers say the setting is built on technology designed to make each landscape feel rich and believable, with an authentic soundtrack helping sell the tone of the era. It is a world that asks players to stay alert, since the situation around them never really stands still.

The developers revealed that more devlogs, gameplay reveals, and in-depth looks at Chronicles: Medieval are planned in the months leading up to the game’s launch later this year.
