Conan Exile’s second installment of the Age of War update is set to release on September 21st, and contained within it is the revamped purge that we have been waiting for with bated breath.
In Chapter 1, they introduced the Clan Hoards, which saw us collect treasure from around the exiled lands, like Scrooge Mcduck, with the promise that with the 2nd installment we would see a use for collecting all the treasure we could, and now they have, with the new revamped Purge.
In the original Purge system, you had a meter that filled up, and when it was full, a random encounter of enemies would attack your base, which could be greatly inconvenient if you had planned to go adventuring. But with the new system, it’s entirely up to you when you want a Purge to begin. The purge has a scale of 1 through 10, and for the level of difficulty that is based upon the amount of your treasure hoard, you can set the purge lower than the maximum allowed, but with greater challenge come better rewards.

To start the Purge, you talk to your treasurer and announce how vast your treasure is, which will catch the ear of the Stygians, who will promptly build a large forward base near your fortress. Waves of Stygian conscripts will descend upon you, all the way up to Elite Stygian troops on harder difficulties. The waves will continue until they have either stolen enough of your loot to fill their coffers or you defeat the Hand of War. He is in it to win it, so the waves will not stop as he challenges you on the field of battle. Take his head, and the battle will be won, and the Stygian soldiers will scatter to the wind.
To allow you to focus more on the battle in front of you, they have removed loot from being dropped by the Stygians, as your reward will come after the battle is won. To secure your spoils, you will have to make sure to pick up the key from the corpse of the Hand of War, go to their deserted battle camp, open up the war chest, and collect your deserved rewards. But keep an eye out for Stygian prisoners, as they will allow you to access special thralls along with the chance to meet Isscar the Sellsword, who is an NPC merchant who will trade you some of your treasure for valuable traps, arrows, explosives, and more for future purges. Most notable is the new mercenary banner, a consumable item that lets you summon various mercenaries to temporarily fight for you wherever you place it. One of the goals of the new, redesigned Purge system is to make it an activity you want to repeat for two reasons: it’s consistently fun, especially with friends, and it has greater rewards.

Some of the other notable additions are a new type of thrall placement, allowing you to place a thrall to guard a specific area, such as a gate or door, and they will no longer run away, leaving the area unprotected. They have also improved the loot table, making the loot you find more logically rewarding than before. Additionally, they have enhanced the combat system with improved stagger consistency and the ability to change your direction of attack while slaying your foes.
And lastly, they had added a new pyramid building set and a lot of other cosmetic items available in the Battle Pass and Bazar, along with new burning siege cauldrons that can be placed near gates and doors that would turn would-be attackers into fried chicken.
After the release of the second part of the Age of War update, they will be working on Chapter 3. Where they plan to introduce us to additional siege equipment, placeable archers, and much more.
I can’t wait to get my purge on with this upcoming update. Tell me what you think about this update and the whole Age of War update as a whole in the comments below.
