Building has become a big part of the survival game genre, ranging from essential structures like crafting tables or smelters to full bases that house them and provide safety from external dangers. Butterscotch Shenanigans has revealed new details about the many improvements in their wacky action survival game, Crashlands 2, compared to their first game.
Base building has undergone a significant overhaul. No longer are you limited to placing large logs as walls and calling it a day. Now, you can build proper walls, windows, floors, roofs, and more, making it feel like a true home. There are many styles to choose from, along with decorative items to make it feel like a cozy house.

In Crashlands 2, you don't have to run around wrecking everything. Sometimes, you may just want to relax and build your dream home, where you can store all the weird things you find in the wilderness.#crashlands2 @BScotchShenani pic.twitter.com/zAlPWSpJ7Z
The developers have also expanded the buddy system. You can now invite buddies to live in your house by building them a room. In addition to being great chatting partners, they will also help around the base. Each NPC has their own likes and dislikes; by placing the furniture they prefer, their comfort level increases. The higher their comfort level, the faster they complete tasks.
The buddies aren’t the only ones who benefit from a nice room. You can also find eggs around the map, and in order to hatch them, each has a list of needs. When you place them in an environment they enjoy, you’ll get yourself a new pet. Hopefully, they’ll be less needy once they hatch!
The developers also briefly discussed the game’s difficulty modes. At launch, there will be three: “Story Mode,” which has little to no combat, “Environmental Mastery,” which appears to be the base difficulty, and “Sneaky Little Sneak,” the hardest mode available.
Crashlands 2 has been delayed by a few months. Originally set to release sometime in 2024, the game will now launch in early 2025, giving the devs more time to polish the experience.
