    • Pros
    • Stunning game
    • CAN PET CATS
    • Get your money's worth of gameplay
    • Fun combat and exploration
    • Cons
    • easily overwhelming
    • limited character customization choices

Crimson Desert is a beautiful game with a huge world to explore and plenty of content for the price. The combat is fun, and being able to pet cats is always a bonus. The only downsides are that the game can feel overwhelming at times due to how much there is to do, and the character customization options are fairly limited. Overall, it’s easy to get many hours of enjoyment out of it.

One of the Most Ambitious Open World Games I’ve Played
    8

I went into Crimson Desert mainly because the trailers looked absolutely insane, but after spending a good amount of time with it, I honestly think the game is even more ambitious than I expected. It feels like the developers tried to combine cinematic storytelling, open world exploration, brutal combat, survival elements, and large scale battles all into one game. Surprisingly, a lot of it actually works.

The first thing that really stood out to me was the world itself. The game looks incredible almost all the time. Riding across huge landscapes, walking through detailed towns, climbing mountains, or getting caught in massive battles genuinely made the world feel alive. There were moments where I stopped doing quests completely just to explore because the environment constantly pulled my attention somewhere else.

Combat is probably the biggest highlight though. Every fight feels heavy and aggressive. Sword clashes, grapples, dodges, and brutal finishers make combat feel more intense than the average action RPG. Some fights honestly reminded me of a mix between Dragon’s Dogma and a more cinematic version of Black Desert combat. Once I started unlocking more abilities and chaining attacks together, fights became extremely satisfying.

I also liked how unpredictable the world can feel. One moment I was casually traveling toward an objective, then suddenly I ended up getting dragged into random encounters, large battles, or weird side events that completely distracted me for another hour. The game constantly throws things at you, which makes exploration feel rewarding instead of empty.

The story surprised me too. I expected the gameplay to carry most of the experience, but some of the characters and emotional moments actually landed better than I thought they would. Kliff especially feels more grounded than the typical fantasy protagonist, and that helped me stay invested during the slower story sections.

That said, the game absolutely feels overwhelming at times. There are moments where it seems like the developers tried to include every mechanic possible into one package. Because of that, some systems feel underdeveloped or messy compared to others. The pacing can also become inconsistent, especially when the game suddenly shifts between exploration, story scenes, survival mechanics, and giant action sequences back to back.

Performance was another mixed area for me. Visually the game is stunning, but during larger fights or busy areas I definitely noticed performance drops and occasional rough edges.

Still, despite those issues, Crimson Desert left a strong impression on me. It’s one of those games where even when parts of it feel messy, you can still appreciate how ambitious and unique the overall experience is. The world, combat, and scale alone kept pulling me back in, and honestly it feels like one of the few modern open world games that actually tries to do something bigger instead of just following the usual formula.

    Offline MMO

    • Pros
    • Graphics
    • Open world freedom
    • Lots of equipment
    • Lots of things to do
    • Cool combat animations
    • Cons
    • No character creation
    • Story too generic
    • Can be overwhelming, take it slowly

Crimson desert has a ‘feature’ that is my favourite, and it is a fantasy RPG MMO but all for yourself, probably a thing introverts like me needed, to have a huge map full of thighs to do, explore and discover, but no other people to bother about. And it looks gorgeous and combat is smooth and responsive. The story is nothing special, and the main character lacks personality, but that just enforces the MMO feeling, sadly you can’t create your character, you have to play with Kliff or any of the other playable companions. The amount of content is overwhelming, a game that I think will never finish but also a game where you can always come back and discover a new town in the most remote corner of the map or find the coolest sword ever. That and lots of unique, and hard, bosses, skills to learn, weapons to master, armours to equip and that feeling of freedom that makes it awesome. Totally recommended game.

    It’s a fantastic game

    • Pros
    • Extremely addictive.
    • The combat flows exceptionally well.
    • A beautiful open world with interesting mechanics.
    • Well optimized to run on mid-range PCs.
    • Enemies offer a well-balanced challenge.
    • Cons
    • The keyboard controls are horrible. Highly recommended to play with a controller.
    • Graphically, it feels somewhat lacking.
    • The narrative feels generic and unengaging at the beginning.
    • Regular enemies are repetitive, although the bosses themselves are unique.
    • Lots of merchants, but no option to negotiate prices.

Crimson Desert, the highly anticipated open world game of this year. I took the time to explore its mechanics and visuals so I could form my own opinion without bias.

Starting with the graphics and performance: the optimization is astonishing, especially in these times when so many developers have become lazy about performance. The color contrast, depth of field, and environmental detail are all handled beautifully. The world feels stunning and alive.

Ironically, what some “expert” or professional players consider its weak point is that the game doesn’t hold your hand step by step like you’re an 8 year old child. Yes, it has a steep learning curve, but it’s also a satisfying one. It gives you multiple mechanics and approaches to handle combat however you prefer, and the combat itself is completely frantic. If you’re facing six enemies, three will attack you simultaneously, then two more right after, and finally another three will finish the assault from every direction.

Its story is enjoyable for people who like fantasy, camaraderie, knights, kingdom wars, and similar themes.

The inventory system can feel a bit overwhelming because it offers so many options, but it’s nothing you can’t learn or get used to. Its greatest strength is how reactive and alive its vast world feels. You can genuinely spend an entire afternoon in a single village petting dogs, carrying cats, chopping wood, hanging out in the tavern, or talking to strangers.

Its dynamic weather system is magnificent. It brings back environmental conditions that actually affect your character, forcing you to pay attention to the climate, your clothing, food supplies, and more.

It’s a fantastic game. It delivers exactly what it promises, but this is definitely not a game for everyone.

Let’s start with the obvious: not everyone likes open world games. Then there’s the fact that long games also aren’t for everybody, which already narrows the audience considerably. Add to that difficult games or games that aren’t particularly “child-friendly,” and you narrow it even further. Nowadays, people often look for games that instantly tell them exactly what, how, where, and why to do things and this is not one of those games. It forces you to learn something new the hard way and to forget much of what you think you already know about combat.

    Beautiful and fun, shallow story
    8
    • Pros
    • Beautiful graphics in an expansive open world
    • Lots of systems and gear to use
    • Ability to travel around in different ways like flying, horseback
    • Lots of skills and quests to unlock
    • Cons
    • The story is quite shallow and could have been more meaningful

The game is very fun with a huge expansive open world to explore! There are lots of things to unlock: skills, quests, abilities, magic, mounts, and weapons/gear! Some of the mechanics can be too overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time! The story is especially too boring, characters are pretty shallow and it doesn’t go into very meaningful territory. The quests are quite clear cut and don’t give too much room for surprises, as well as finding loot and puzzles. The open world could have more content in it that makes exploration more exciting and give it some variety! There’s lots of fast travel points and a whole bunch of cool mounts and modes of transportation to unlock such as a dragon, crow wings, nature magic, horseback, boats and grappling hooks, so you can be pretty creative with the way you get around! The combat could have more variety though, the basic attack can technically be enough to get you through the whole game, it would have been fun to have more weapon types and variability in what you need to do to defeat certain enemies. The bosses can be frustrating and the enemy camps could use more difficulty. The game is still very fun and well-made though, but I think some things are holding it back from being near a “masterpiece” like some people say! The graphics are certainly very impressive, some variety in scenery/seasons would have been wonderful, though I do really love the dynamic weather systems! There are so many funny and detailed things to do in the world as well, so it’s quite like Skyrim (without the fun, surprising quests you can find in that game) I think the biggest thing holding this game back though is the shallowness of the characters and story, it’s quite disappointing that they didn’t go as “grand” with that as they did with the graphics and everything else!

    Crimson Desert review

    • Pros
    • Huge open world with tons to explore
    • Combat feels really fun and satisfying
    • Looks amazing visually
    • Cons
    • Story is kinda weak and forgettable
    • Too many systems, can feel overwhelming

I’ve been playing Crimson Desert and honestly it’s a really fun game if you like open-world RPGs. The world is massive and there’s always something to do, and the combat feels great most of the time. Also the photo mode and taking photos in the game feels great! But the story didn’t really hook me, and sometimes the game throws too many mechanics at you which can get confusing. Still, if you enjoy exploring and just messing around in a big world, it’s definitely worth trying.
