The Crosswind Crew have shared fresh details about what inspired the world and the direction they want to take the lore and gameplay of their Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag-inspired survival game, Crosswind.
The devs stated that the game is not a pirate simulator focused on historical accuracy but rather emphasizes adventure, discovery, and the romanticized feeling of being a pirate captain. It features a fantasy world with ships, shady ports, and various factions. While it might not be accurate to history, they did pick facts and stories from the 16th to 18th centuries and shaped them with fictional elements to enhance gameplay and narrative. However, unlike many other story-driven games, the developers clarified that it will not overshadow the survival mechanics, as that is the core of Crosswind. Rather, it is just to enrich the world. While they are set on delivering a fun pirate fantasy, one of their goals is to have it be grounded in reality.

You find yourself sometime in the 1700s as a delivery man as the British East India Company found some pages of Columbus his book. During your travels, you have a few encounters with the legendary Captain Black Beard. His crew is one you will run into no matter what region you go unlike the other factions. There will be multiple biomes, like tropical beaches, jungles, and swamps, as you sail the seas to transport cargo and visit islands, and each will also have unique enemies and resources to gather. Some of the isles are inhabited by people, these settlements are where you can pick up quests, talk to NPCs, and more. On the other ones, you will be able to build a base to horde all your gold.
