When I first some this game based on the story and visuals I thought this could be new Terraria and since I love Terraria I had to try it, but boy was I wrong.
I’ll start with the good things since there aren’t that many, the game looks great pixel art style is amazing, and it is coop, but that’s it, there is nothing else.
The game is really buggy, Ai is terrible, progression is badly imagined, and the game is abandoned by devs, and it is unfinished.
I tried to force myself to like it, but this one should be skipped, it is not worth spending money on it.
It’s pretty daring to release a game with simple AI pathing & direction. I have high hopes for this game as i enjoyed Starbound & Rimworld a lot and this is a perfect hybrid if they can pull it more off, and its noticeable to see they have their signature craft in this. If you like both games or genres, you can take a look.
Today was the release of Farworld Pioneers 5/30/23. Last night the game updated before launch to v1.05, but due to Quality Assurance issues, the launch version was brought back down to v1.03.
The hour before launch the Hype-train was building, then at exactly 9:00 am PST the game launched simultaneously on Xbox, Xbox GamePass and Steam, Sorry Playstation peeps, the launch for you won’t be till June 14th, but maybe for you, it is better.
Right out of the gate, Kickstarter patrons, Streamers, and New Players were buying, installing and jumping into the game, the Farworld Pioneers Discord server was on fire, all Dev Team members and Community Staff members were present to answer the flood of questions.
I jump in, Streaming software running, the countdown for my stream is closely approaching, I want to stream and play with viewers, I hit the Multiplayer button, hit to confirm to start the server, when the spinning wheel of death is upon me. Apparently there was an issue with Steam Servers during the launch, not allowing almost anyone to create a Multiplayer server.
The discord was blowing up with complaints of not being able to make a server, but spirits were high, though the players were grumbling none appeared to be highly upset, as launch day issues appear the norm nowadays even from big AAA companies.
So many of us, still wanting to get out game on, played and streamed some single player, and even that was riddled with issues that did not appear to happen in the beta and demo versions, such as the invincible slug creature, and ghost blocks that would let you fall right through solid ground into the ether (I died to them).
But the world of Farworld Pioneers is a harsh world at that, my colony was raided by raiders, frozen to the bone by the frigid cold and eventually everyone in my colony was taken from me, all except my faithful dog Weenie.
The launch was rough, no doubt about it, but it was a launch, and now we have it, now it is the Devs job to update, fix, test, release etc, till we have the game we dreamt of, their are going to be hiccups and slaps from ManSeals (yes it is a real thing) that occur, but I will be a pioneer on the edge, looking for Far New Worlds to explore and new subhuman animals to get slapped by.
The Dev Team has assured me that they have no thoughts of letting this game go by the way of Starbound and will continue to focus on their flagship game, and as long as they do, I will support them.
