After being teased since the early access release of survival RPG ‘Frozen Flame’, Dreamside Interactive invites players to playtest the long-awaited “Survival Mode”.
While this new game mode is still unavailable in the main game, it is playable in the beta branch for Frozen Flame. It has also been renamed to “Cataclysm Mode”.
What new things to expect in the beta
In the Cataclysm Mode there are a few new locations to discover such as floating islands and a water archipelago.
The big new location is the “Frozen Desert”, a place filled with dangerous enemies like ice zombies and elementals. Surviving in this area will be tough as it is constantly freezing so make sure to bring something warm. This biome is also home to a new dragon boss, defeating it will be your main goal during this mode.
In good old survival fashion, an energy bar has been added to Frozen Flame. Over the course of the day, your character gets more tired. The lower the energy bar gets, the less max stamina you have. There are two ways of restoring energy, one is to simply go to bed and the other is to drink water from a magic fountain (I am pretty sure that is an energy drink and not normal water).
Combat got an overhaul, all animations are now more expressive. Abilities from the skill tree will now require combat energy in order to be used.
You are now able to build a trading tent, which allows players to trade items with each other.

How to join the Frozen Flame beta
The beta is open to everyone who owns the game and joining it is very simple.
- Right-click Frozen Flame in your Steam library and click properties.
- Click the Beta tab and select “beta – Upcoming version (Unstable)”.
- You can close the properties and you will now see that Frozen Flame Beta is being installed.
When switching to the beta branch you will temporarily be unable to play the main campaign mode.
Are you going to try the open beta or will you wait for the official release? Let me know in the comments.
