Heat Death: Survival Train is one of those games i can’t quite explain why, but it feels really relaxing to play. Maybe it’s just because i’ve always loved the whole Snowpiercer survival theme and this scratches that itch nicely. It definitely shows its indie roots, with limited budget and simple mechanics. Still, despite the rough edges, there’s something oddly cozy and enjoyable about riding this survival train through the frozen wasteland.
I’ve played this game since early beta and love each new revision the devs do. They are working hard at responding to feedback and expanding the content of the game.
The premise of your base being a moving platform is intriguing and fun, bringing new challenges to the more traditional survival building games. The building takes a little getting used to, and can be a bit frustrating to snap some pieces at times. But it’s fun to grow your base as you move along from location to location.
I do find the progression is very linear which can feel a bit jarring after mostly playing sandbox games. But there is still plenty of content and plenty of requirements to feel pushing you further along the tracks.
The ui has been evolving and is very workable now but still feels a bit clunky, with crafting menus taking up the entire screen and clicking being the main way to interact rather than keybinds.
I know there’s been copies of this cobbled together with AI but I consider this the og and a labour of love for the Dev so very much recommend it to others and will be sticking around. Really excited for the 1.0 release!
