A magical start that fizzles out
    5
    • Pros
    • Strong atmosphere and lore integration
    • Satisfying spell combat
    • Cons
    • Repetitive side content
    • Underwhelming NPC interaction
    • Lack of replayability

Hogwarts Legacy makes an amazing first impression with its detailed world, magical atmosphere and the pure joy of exploring Hogwarts. The first half of the game feels fresh and exciting, especially for Harry Potter fans. But somewhere past the midpoint, the charm fades and the gameplay becomes painfully repetitive – same enemy camps, same fetch quests, same mechanics. Around 50% completion, I found myself skipping side content entirely and just rushing the main story, not because it was gripping but because I wanted to be done. It’s a strong foundation but the lack of variety and passing issues stop it from being truly great.

    Magical and Gorgeous Open World
    10
    • Pros
    • Captures a great magical atmosphere
    • Beautiful, vast open world
    • Satisfying spells and fluid combat
    • Lots of side quests and stories to explore
    • Great map design and travel points
    • Really fun flying mechanics
    • Cons
    • Somewhat mediocre and repetitive story sometimes
    • Could have done with a little more variation in enemies

When I started this game, I couldn’t stop playing! It’s one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played! The sceneries are gorgeous, especially with dynamic and well-done season changes! The world is filled with so many magical little details and secrets to find, it was so exciting to explore every nook and cranny! For a while the game really oddly didn’t have a photo mode but thankfully it’s since been implemented! This game makes perfect screenshots almost anywhere in the world!

The story is nicely done and interesting if not a bit repetitive feeling at times. The characters/friends from each house you get to know are all very distinct and fun to learn about though! There’s hundreds of side quests everywhere on the map that add so much depth and character into the game! Everything is marked very clearly in the journal and map, and you can set waypoint travel routes to easily follow your destination!

As for the movement in the game, it’s really fluid and satisfying! Flying feels amazing and gives you such a rush and perfect view of all the scenery! Combat is really fun, open-world rpgs don’t often have magical spells used in this way, so it was quite different from anything I’ve played! There’s a ton of spells to discover through quests (other characters often help teach you) and you can customize your loadout however you wish!

There are countless different kinds of collectibles and secrets to find that actually serve purposes and give you upgrades! You can also fully customize your broom, character appearance, clothes, and gear! There’s a really cool base you get further on where you can make upgrade machines and design the room however you’d like! It has farming and creature collecting as well, where you save them from poachers and create your own playroom for them here! There’s 4 different themed rooms that play some of the most beautiful music in the game! The animals can be pet, groomed, fed and played with to have an adorable, relaxing time in your own little world!

A Magical Adventure with a Few Quirks
    8
    • Pros
    • Large Open-World to Explore
    • Character Stylizing
    • Game Design
    • Plenty of Side Quests
    • Familiar and Exciting Spells to Learn
    • Cons
    • Short Main Story
    • Arachnophobia Issues
    • Few Flaws in the Graphics

Hogwarts Legacy has been a blast to play on the Switch! Exploring the iconic castle and surrounding areas has been a total joy, and I’ve sunk a ton of hours into discovering all its secrets.

    A Few Strengths:

Open-world Exploration: The open world is surprisingly vast on the Switch, and the map is a great tool for navigating it.

World Design: Hogwarts itself is beautifully recreated, and the developers did a fantastic job capturing the magical feel of the Wizarding World. Even the outdoor environments are detailed and immersive.

Side Quests: I ended up enjoying the side quests more than the main story. They offer a nice variety of challenges and let you delve deeper into the world.

Spellcasting: The combat system is fun, and there are a good number of spells to learn and master.

    Areas for Improvement:

Main Story: The main story felt a bit short compared to the vast open world.

Performance: The Switch version definitely has some graphical downgrades compared to other platforms. There can be occasional frame rate drops, especially in crowded areas.

Spiders: This is a personal nitpick, but even with the option to turn off realistic spiders, I still found the “goofy” versions a little creepy. It would be nice to have an option to remove them entirely for players with arachnophobia.

    Overall:

Despite a few technical shortcomings, Hogwarts Legacy is a captivating adventure on the Switch. If you’re a Harry Potter fan and you crave an open-world experience packed with exploration and magic, this is a game worth checking out. Just be prepared for a slightly shorter main story and some visual downgrades compared to other consoles.

we say "Wingardium Leviosa," not "Leviosaaaar" !
    10
    • Pros
    • An adventure for everyone, tailored to perfection…
    • A breathtaking artistic direction
    • Magic everywhere, all the time "Revelio"
    • Engaging and dynamic combat
    • Surprising and innovative ideas abound
    • A satisfying lifespan
    • A richly detailed universe
    • A game for both fans and the curious
    • Cons
    • Combat can be confusing at times, especially with targeting and camera issues.
    • Merlin's quests can be somewhat repetitive.

To start, we say “Wingardium Leviosa,” not “Leviosaaaar”… Now that we’ve clarified that, let’s dive into the enchanted world of “Hogwarts Legacy,” a captivating action-RPG that invites us on a fascinating adventure set in the magical universe of Harry Potter, under the brilliant guidance of JK Rowling. Taking place in the 19th century, well before the iconic events of the books and films. Grab your magic wand and let’s start with our first spell: “Revelio”!

At the core of “Hogwarts Legacy” lies a rich and immersive gameplay experience. Players take on the role of a young wizard or witch attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where they can choose which house to join; for me, it will always be Gryffindor, end of discussion. The game offers unparalleled freedom, allowing players to shape their magical destiny. Attend classes, learn spells, brew potions, and explore the vast and mystical grounds of the castle. Encounter mythical creatures, solve puzzles (sometimes useful, sometimes not), and make crucial decisions that influence the narrative, offering a truly personalized adventure. Again, “Revelio”!

Visually, “Hogwarts Legacy” is a masterpiece, seamlessly blending the allure of the Harry Potter universe with cutting-edge graphics. The depiction of Hogwarts, its surrounding landscapes, and magical creatures is nothing short of breathtaking. The attention to detail in recreating the wizarding world in a historical context adds depth to the experience. From the towering spires of Hogwarts to the hidden corners of the Forbidden Forest, the game captures the essence of J.K. Rowling’s creation with meticulous details revealed through, you guessed it: “Revelio”!

And of course, let’s not forget the impeccable sound design of the game. The stirring musical score, reminiscent of the iconic compositions from the film series, accompanies players on their journey. The sounds of spellcasting, magical creatures, and the bustling life of Hogwarts immerse players in a truly auditory magical experience.

And, of course, no game is perfect, and let’s “Revelio” that; in “Hogwarts Legacy,” there are some issues with the camera during fights, which can sometimes last a bit too long, a few somewhat redundant side quests (Merlin, if you can hear me…), but nothing too severe that spoils the gaming experience.

I didn’t delve into the game’s story, partly to avoid spoilers and partly because of character limits in the review. So, for this aspect, enjoy discovering it while playing the game!
Oh, by the way, I repeat the spell “Revelio” too much because it’s the spell you’ll use the most in the game 😉 you’ll see.

In conclusion, “Hogwarts Legacy” promises an unparalleled adventure for fans of the series and newcomers alike. With its expansive gameplay, stunning graphics, and enchanting sound design, the game offers a chance to explore the magical realm in a unique historical context. We’ve been waiting for a game in the Harry Potter universe for a long time, even too long, and now we’re finally served.

    • Pros
    • Excellent Art Direction
    • Music faithful
    • gameplay well designed
    • Characted customisation
    • Flying
    • Room of requirements
    • Story and lore
    • Cons
    • Castle and world feels empty endgame
    • The castle is not that great
    • No Quidditch
    • No castle sneaking at night
    • Repetetive tasks
    • Houses not that important

Hogwarts Legacy is, from an artistic point of view, is a masterclass.
Everything looks super cool and faithful to the original franchise. The same for music, lore and quest. It gives the feels we excepted when starting the game.

If you are a fan, got for it, you won’t be disapointed. But later, mid/end game, it starts to feel repetitive and empty.
So hardcore gamer might be sad.

The castle miss some content, it feels more like a good postal card than a truly immersion but it’s fine. Puzzles, ambience is enough to enjoy the place. Everything is really well made.
Houses rooms look super cool but are quite useless, same as Houses choice. It gives just some bonus quest.

For a hardcore HP fan, it’s great, specially the room for requirements you can decorate as you wish. The did great with this feature.
    Flying is satisfying.

Overall the game is a must have, a great surprise, and it gives hope for a better sequel, DLC or next HP game.

    • Pros
    • Starting as a 5th year
    • Graphics
    • Interaction with environment
    • Character progression
    • Open World
    • Cons
    • Not quite Open World
    • Quest Locked

I have/am enjoying this game more than I thought I would. The details at the various locations of the world have been extremely well done and fun to actually explore like I was there. Being able to talk to everyone and NPC’s having their own lives/schedules is nice, it makes the world feel alive. Being able to start as a 5th year, and learn/catch-up to the basic spells at your own pace has been fulfilling.
It is some what limiting to be quest locked from doing “what you want to do” in an “open world setting. Having to retrace steps after you finally finsih the quest to get this spell or that is some what limiting. There are many areas of the map that you can’t unlock until “this is done” type thing.

Overall, it has a good engaging storyline, many side quests that you don’t have to do, good graphics, and is well worth it if you want to “experience Hogwarts”.
