The demo for the 2D zombie survival game Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days by developer PikPok has received new content, including more characters, weapons, and a new stealth mechanic. The developers made sure to release it just ahead of the upcoming Steam Next Fest so players can experience the game at their own pace.
Wayne and Tracy are joining the roster of characters you can pick from when starting your playthrough. This pair from Texas can pack a punch. The older characters have also been given some love, with new dialogue and interactions in the shelter. Alongside the new couple, players now have access to a few additional weapons, such as the makeshift spiked bat, machete, and axe. These can be crafted at a weapons workbench using basic components like duct tape and metal.

One feature the developers wanted to include from the start was the ability to distract zombies. Update 0.2 finally adds this mechanic, allowing you to throw bottles or other items to create noise that attracts the undead. This is perfect if you’re stuck in a horde or don’t want to waste your weapons. Alternatively, it also turns their backs to you, giving you an easy opening to take them down.
The devs have been hard at work preparing the game for release. Some of the teasers they’ve shown include new locations, such as a bar, laundromat, and an expensive-looking car shop. Sadly, I doubt you’ll be able to take one of those cars and cruise around the zombie apocalypse in a Ferrari.
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is set to launch in early access on Steam in Q2 of this year, but before that, you can try out the updated demo.
