Lost Rift is a Fresh Blend of Survival Crafting and Extraction Shooter Genres

After a risky expedition, relax at your own island base.

Following a successful playtest, People Can Fly has finally launched their extraction survival crafting game, Lost Rift. The game combines PvP and PvE elements, reminding me of Conan Exiles blended with Rust, and the developers promise at least 10 hours of PvE narrative gameplay.

Everything expected from a first-person survival, extraction, and crafting game is here: base building, crafting, exploring, and fending off the occasional wild animal. Set in an island archipelago, Lost Rift has all the standard features of a survival game, mixed with an extraction shooter in the form of expeditions. From there, you can explore the islands with up to four players on a non-dedicated server, allowing you to play even when the host is offline. This lets your group continue on your shared island if you’re busy with your day job. There is no limit to the number of friends you can invite.

Developers have implemented a comfort level in survivor camps, giving you and your companions new ways to construct your base and make it meaningful. This also provides stat bonuses if you’ve maxed out the comfort level. And if you are craving some BBQ, look for the island’s more docile creatures, like tapirs, dodos, or goats.

Everyone needs weapons and Lost Rift has what you might need: bows and arrows, shotguns, revolvers, and rifles. Players can craft the weapon of their choice before setting out across the island to unlock that sweet, sweet lore. And when you get ambushed, another interesting mechanic is the heavy wound system. Should survivors find themselves in a dustup between rival gamers, squadmates won’t be able to be revived indefinitely. Instead, downed survivors receive a heavy wound, which prevents them from being revived a second time.

Besides you and your friends, you can also hire unique survivors on the island, giving you more options at your base. Currently, there are six survivors located on the island, and each has their own story. Also, all players must deal with the local outcasts, who have set up their own camp: snipers called Marksmen, heavy hitters like Bruisers, damage-per-second Berserkers, and even a few boss variants. But those are not the only dangers on the islands; bugs, hyenas, and apes hide in the forests, keeping players on their toes.

If you are up for a high-stakes survival experience, Lost Rift is now available in early access on Steam.
