Harsh Survival Experience That Tests Your Patience
    6

I spent some time playing Misery and it definitely lives up to its name. This is not a forgiving survival game, and from the very beginning it makes that clear. You are thrown into a harsh environment where resources are limited, danger is constant, and every small mistake can cost you progress. It feels less like a typical game and more like a slow, punishing test of patience.

The core gameplay revolves around surviving in a hostile world by managing your needs, gathering resources, and staying one step ahead of whatever threats are out there. I found myself constantly checking my inventory, planning routes, and thinking about whether it was even worth taking certain risks. That sense of tension is what kept me engaged during the early hours.

What stands out the most is the atmosphere. The game creates a bleak and oppressive feeling that sticks with you while playing. The environments feel empty in a deliberate way, and that loneliness adds to the overall experience. There were moments where just traveling from one point to another felt stressful because you never really feel safe.

Progression is slow and sometimes frustrating. You don’t get strong quickly, and upgrades take time and effort. While this adds to the realism and challenge, it can also feel grindy. There were times where I felt like I was repeating the same actions just to make small progress. It is the kind of game that rewards patience more than skill.

Combat is present but not the main focus. Encounters feel risky rather than exciting, and most of the time I found it better to avoid fights instead of engaging directly. This adds to the survival aspect but may disappoint players looking for more action.

The biggest issue for me was the pacing. The game can feel very slow, especially during longer sessions. Some players will appreciate that methodical approach, but others might find it tiring. There are also a few rough edges in terms of mechanics and overall polish.

Overall, Misery delivers a very specific kind of survival experience. It is harsh, slow, and unforgiving, but also immersive in its own way. I had moments where I really enjoyed the tension and atmosphere, but it is not a game for everyone. If you enjoy difficult survival games that require patience and careful planning, this one is worth trying.

A survival game where you can share your troubles while consuming the barely found supplies in your bunker while the apocalypse alarms go off, listening to your friend play “Dark is the Night” on guitar, accompanied by cigarettes and vodka…

The game is quite good, but it’s still lacking a few things. The maps are quite small, and you don’t get enough time to explore. Longer durations, larger maps, and longer survival sequences would be better. The maps are sometimes too similar in design. This can make it feel like you’re “revolving around the same area” after the first few hours. However, it’s at this point that the game unexpectedly refreshes itself by introducing new locations. This change of pace is a well-thought-out detail that breaks up the tedium. There’s no objective, progress chart, or achievements for quests. After a while, you’ll likely become aimless and bored. What the game offers is clear, but it’s a bit amateurish. The AI, environmental interactions, and survival activities need to be improved and expanded, as well as mod support. Weapon mechanics are one of the game’s weak points. Firearms feel quite underpowered. Furthermore, the item count is currently limited; while the sense of exploration is still there, there’s a lack of variety. However, the development team says they will add new equipment and crafting materials in future updates, which will significantly increase the game’s replayability.

Aside from that, the atmosphere the game offers isn’t bad at all. Mutated creatures, terrorists, and soldiers abound, and depending on their type, they can be challenging and frightening. One of my favorite things about the game was the atmosphere, and the map design isn’t bad either. I came across some truly engaging scenes, and if you have a friend with a similar spirit, this game is definitely perfect for you.
