I went into Nested Lands expecting a gritty medieval survival experience, and after spending a fair bit of time with it, I can say it does get some of that atmosphere right. The game drops you into a bleak world filled with danger, limited resources, and a constant need to survive. From the start, I was focused on gathering materials, crafting basic tools, and trying to secure a safe spot to build.
The survival loop is pretty straightforward. You explore, loot, craft, and slowly build up your base while dealing with threats around you. I did like the setting because it feels different from the usual survival games filled with zombies or futuristic elements. Here it’s more grounded, with a darker medieval tone that adds to the immersion.
Base building is one of the more enjoyable parts. Starting with almost nothing and slowly putting together a small settlement feels rewarding at first. There is a sense of progression as you unlock better tools and structures. I found myself spending a good amount of time just organizing my base and trying to make it more efficient.
However, after a few hours, the cracks start to show. The gameplay loop becomes repetitive fairly quickly. Most of the time I was doing the same tasks over and over again without much variation. Combat also feels pretty basic and lacks impact, which makes encounters less exciting than they should be.
Another issue is the lack of depth in some systems. While the game has a solid foundation, it feels like it needs more content and variety to keep players engaged for longer sessions. There were moments where the world felt a bit empty, and I wished there was more to discover or interact with.
Performance and polish can also be inconsistent. I ran into a few rough edges while playing, and it’s clear the game still needs more refinement.
Overall, Nested Lands has a strong atmosphere and a decent survival foundation, but it feels like a work in progress. I enjoyed the early hours and the base building aspect, but the repetition and lack of depth hold it back. With more updates and improvements, it could become a much better experience over time.
