The recently announced Never Wither has revealed that we can expect a new trailer and shared new details about creatures and their abilities.
In the game, instead of ordering allies from a distance, you can take direct control of tamed creatures, as well as pair two companions and make their skills work together. For example, the Giant Belly Frog swallows foes and spits them out to disrupt enemy lines. Paired with a long-range partner like the Quill Porcupine, that combo keeps enemies at a distance while dealing steady damage. The Ooze creature leaves a slowing slime trail that stays active even after you switch creatures, which helps control movement in a fight. Some beasts change how their skills behave when they mutate, opening up new ways to combine powers.
The environment can also be leveraged in combat, as Waterborn creatures grow stronger near water, while the Shadow Mantis uses mimicry to hide and then dash in for precise strikes. The Dryad can call neutral forest creatures to help, offering buffs and healing that can turn the tide when used well. These interactions aim to reward players who pay attention to place and timing.
However, not every role is built to fight on the front line. Couriers carry a coffer function that protects valuable items from being lost in a defeat. Mudball can hide underground and appear as a plant to avoid fights. Burst Fungus trades its own health for explosive damage, making it a threat even at low life.
There are also clear options for support play, with Shield Guardians being able to soak large amounts of frontal damage to protect allies. Prism links to teammates to provide buffs or teleport in for a save, while Glimmer Wisp creature brings healing scaled to its own stats, which encourages careful builds and timing rather than constant rushing.
In Never Wither, players can expect both small fights and large clan wars. Siege battles will allow clans to fight over territories and resources. While the Stone Giant becomes a mud wall to block attack routes and shield allies, the Sharp-eyed Archer can place an outpost and hold ground with precise sniping. This suggests that the game will reward teamwork as much as individual skill.
The new trailer should give a clearer look at how these systems fit together, and it’s going to be revealed during the Steam PvP Fest on Febuary 9th.
