Inflexion Games has revealed a new trailer for their upcoming Victorian survival game Nightingale at the Game Awards 2022. Following this event, they shared a lot more information about the game.
Hunger, sleep, and stamina are all things we have grown accustomed to while playing survival games. Nightingale will add a new bar to keep an eye on named “Hope”. While the details of this mechanic weren’t specified, the developers gave us some hints on how this will affect players. Hope goes down as you venture out into the realms and will have negative effects when it gets low. To restore it you will have to go back to your base and complete some tasks around there to get it back up. With current information, it sounds a lot like homesickness.
In the newest trailer, we get a small glimpse of a temple-looking area. Turns out this is known as a “vault”. Vaults as well as caves are found in every realm and act as the dungeons of Nightingale. While vaults will be easy to find because they stand out, caves on the other hand will be more difficult to spot. These locations have varying challenges, and while not directly stated it is implied these challenges consist of more than just combat encounters. Unlike most other survival games building is allowed in the dungeons so you could make some fortifications before entering combat. Venturing down the depths will be worth your time as you are able to obtain unique loot. The caves hold different resources like gems the player might need.

Not all enemies are out to kill you. Harpies prioritize stealing loot, this might be your hard-earned resources or if there happens to be an encampment nearby they will rob them.
These were a few interesting details that might have gone under your radar.
What do you think about the new ‘Hope’ survival mechanic? Let me know in the comments.
