Inflexion Game has revealed more information about their upcoming Victorian survival game Nightingale in a recent Q&A. The developers talk a little more in-depth about the multiplayer aspect of the game as well as the combat and building.
Realms
The unique feature of Nightingale is its portal system. In order to visit another realm using the portal, you need to craft an item called the realm card. Upon launch, there will be a dozen or so different realm cards each made from different materials found in the world. You can combine these cards at the portal to get unique modifiers for the locations you explore such as different wildlife, enemies, weather, or even a different environment.
When joining a friend’s realm you can choose which of your characters you want to play with in their world. Any items your character has on them will also be transferred to their world, similar to games like Valheim.

Leveling and Crafting
Leveling up your character and crafting armor/jewelry are the two primary ways to get the stats of your character up. Depending on the gear you craft, as well as the hides you use when crafting it, will give bonuses to stats like health, strength, stamina, etc but also give resistance to specific attacks. You will be able to update your backpack to hold more inventory space, the developers also said there will be more advanced features to hold more but they did not go into detail about what they meant by this.
Hunting and Magic
Hunting will become part of Nightingale. You will use weaponry such as a slingshot or a rifle to hunt the animals roaming the realm. While exploring there will be times when you need to use some magic abilities. The player can obtain different magical abilities by progressing through the game such as a spell called “Wisp” which will illuminate the area.
Building
While not much was said about the building system, we now have an idea of how the building will work. You will place down a blueprint similar to games such as The Forest or Grounded and then you give it the required materials to finish the blueprint.
You can find more details about the game in the first dev Q&A.
