The bones of a truly magnificent game are all here. It really is one of the most unique games I’ve played and something about the vehicle being the very core of gameplay was extremely satisfying. The loop of venturing out, scavenging, repairing and upgrading etc. is an addiction and some of my favorite moments of the game are spent in the garage repairing and preparing my car for my next outting.
After you venture into the world for 25ish hours, however, the game begins to lose the magic of its gimmick. And to be fair what game doesn’t after that long? The anomaly variety isn’t all that great and after you get some great parts and experience behind the wheel, the stakes aren’t so high anymore. I also feel like there’s an indescribable flaw with the way you are incentivized to gather resources. The loop explains itself. Drive to zone, gather items, use items to build tools or parts that help you get to next zone and better resources. But I felt like this process could have been more dramatic, more explicit. I was never found wanting for materials, resources, or tools so long as I hoarded enough and explored enough. And of course it can’t be a review without mentioning that the ending leaves much to be desired. Those devs better be cooking up something great DLC wise.
It’s easy to make the review sound negative hot of the heels of completing the game, but rest assured: if this game sounds like it’s your jam, it most certainly is. It’s unique, rewarding, a complete blast, and highly immersive. I haven’t experienced a game with mechanics quite like it. It kept me well entertained for nearly 50 hours (given that a lot of that time was spent farming and stalling so that I didn’t have to finish the game because I enjoyed it so much).
This game and the setting are absolutely beautiful! It’s a very unique idea for a horror game, mainly taking place in the car as you drive around to upgrade it and avoid the alien-like enemies! It has a great air of supernatural mystery and an interesting storyline to discover! It is a bit repetitive, with many fetch quest tasks and the same gameplay loop of leaving the garage, finding resources, upgrading and returning. I wish it had more variability and didn’t take place in the car *so* much of the time!
The car is very fun to drive around and it’s satisfying to upgrade it! The enemies are cool and will interact with you in different ways! I wish there was more paranormal horror like this, it’s still quite a more rare category!
“Pacific Drive” is a survival genre, offering a unique vehicular exploration and resource management.
Set in a mysterious, post-apocalyptic world, the game shows a beautiful world full of mysteries.
Its totally worth buying believe me!!
Imagine a transformed Pacific Northwest, where an ominous mist shrouds dense forests and winding roads. Behind the wheel of a simple station wagon, you find yourself immersed in this hostile environment, hunted by supernatural forces and haunted by an unsolvable mystery. Your goal? Survive and escape this Exclusion Zone before it’s too late. Welcome to Pacific Drive, a survival and driving game that promises a terrifying and immersive experience like no other, and I mean no other. Grab your crowbar and circular saw, and hold on tight, because this nightmare road trip is going to put you to the test… vroom vroom!
Story-wise, the game takes you to the mysterious Olympic Exclusion Zone, a fictional region in the American Northwest. In the 1940s, research into a promising new technology led to tragic paranormal events, transforming this area into an evacuated no man’s land isolated by a massive wall. Decades later, while making a delivery, you are drawn by a supernatural force emanating from the wall. Now trapped, you are guided by the few remaining scientists, facing anomalies and unique supernatural entities. Your mission is to understand what happened, find a way out of the zone, and discover how you got there, all while collaborating with your contacts to hopefully survive.
In Pacific Drive, survival is crucial. Alone and vulnerable in a hostile environment, every step could be your last. Your station wagon is essential but fragile, and you will need to constantly maintain and repair it. With resources scarce, you will have to explore carefully to find fuel, food, and spare parts, while avoiding the dangers of the darkness and the creatures that lurk within. The tension is constant: you will need to stay alert, listen carefully, and analyze your surroundings to avoid traps and enemies. Survival requires thought, strategy, and composure. Every outing is risky, with death always on your heels, but the satisfaction of surviving another day and uncovering the secrets of this nightmare world is priceless. Fortunately, your garage is your sanctuary, where you can repair your vehicle, craft items, and plan your excursions. By upgrading and expanding your base, you will be better prepared, repair your car, craft more powerful weapons, and survive the many dangers that await you.
As for the graphics and sound, the game immerses you in a captivating visual and auditory world. The realistic graphics and atmospheric lighting make the environment believable and threatening, while the immersive sound effects put you right in the heart of the action. The dense forest, with its menacing trees and rustling leaves, as well as the winding roads and abandoned villages, reinforce the feeling of isolation and danger. The sound design, with its oppressive silence sometimes broken by sudden noises, and the melancholic and disturbing music, create a heavy atmosphere that will keep you on edge. It’s a complete sensory experience that transports you to a nightmare world that’s hard to escape.
While Pacific Drive has many strengths, it is not without its flaws. Some players have found the difficulty a bit too high, especially at the beginning of the game. Driving can also be a bit frustrating at times, especially with the handling of the station wagon.
Despite these flaws, Pacific Drive remains a unique and original experience that will appeal to fans of horror and survival games. If you’re looking for a tough challenge and an immersive experience, this game is for you. But remember, the adventure won’t be easy, but the satisfaction of surviving and unlocking the secrets of this nightmare world is well worth it, oh yes.
