Picked this up when they announced it with a buy 1 get 1 free special. The game was so fun and with every big update it game the game grew better and more polished. The DLC’s also work pretty well (Second one had a rough launch but its being fixed) with the base game to make its a fun and unique experience each run. The game also has multiple ways to end your runs making you plan out your escape as you play.
Risk of Rain 2 is a fast-paced, roguelike third-person shooter that throws you into chaotic, action-packed runs through various alien landscapes. The game’s switch from the original 2D platformer to 3D is a bold move, and it works brilliantly. The environments are vibrant and varied, with each stage offering a new challenge and set of enemies.
The best part of Risk of Rain 2 is its addictive gameplay loop. Each run feels fresh thanks to randomized levels, items, and enemies. You start off weak, but as you gather power-ups, you become a walking powerhouse, juggling insane combos of abilities. It’s a satisfying progression, especially when you start stacking crazy item synergies. The game also features co-op multiplayer, which cranks up the fun, as you and your friends can team up to take on hordes of enemies and bosses 🙂
The difficulty ramps up quickly, and sometimes it feels like the game’s punishing you for no reason, especially if you don’t get lucky with item drops early on. It can also be overwhelming for new players, with a lot happening on screen at once and little direction on how to manage it all, and the 3D graphics, while colorful, can sometimes make it hard to keep track of the action during intense moments.
Despite these small flaws, Risk of Rain 2 is a blast to play, especially if you’re into roguelikes or just love fast-paced action. The constant thrill of survival, item discovery, and boss battles makes it an exhilarating experience !!
As someone who has spent countless hours diving into rogue-like games, Risk of Rain quickly captured my attention with its unique blend of fast-paced action, challenging gameplay, and rewarding progression.
When it comes to 3D roguelike, it is the first game that comes to mind and is unique. I thought I knew most of the game before playing it by constantly watching its broadcasts.
Its story, its universe are incredible; The careful dialogues in the logbook, the drawing style of the maps and characters, the music (this is truly incredible), the originality, the hidden easter eggs that are hidden and poked at your eyes satisfy you from an artistic point of view.
First of all, you don’t wait in the game. The game loads the first episode while you are on the main screen, and loads the second episode while you are in the first episode. This really adds fluidity to the game. When you first start the game, there is no “guide” telling you to move with WASD. The game knows that you know this. It just wants you to come in and play.
So many characters and no two of these characters are alike, and almost every character has two or three different variations of the four attributes, so you have the chance to play each character in 6-10 variations, too many items and all of these items are very, very different, too many combinations and these combinations It’s what makes the game enjoyable. The game guarantees that different things will await you in each hand.
As for the gameplay, each character has a different gameplay style. Fast slow; long distance, close distance; area damage, single damage; magic damage, physical damage, poison damage, weapon damage, turret damage…
Some characters also have passives, such as certain critical damage if you hit them from behind, or gaining a shield as you deal damage, or floating in the air.
Of course, not only damage, most characters also have movement-giving features: They can be invisible and accelerate, jump, hook, teleport, somersault, slide, etc.
There are so many enemies and they are so unique. You cannot say that an enemy is hard and an enemy is easy because it changes depending on each character. Each enemy also has an elite version (fire, electricity, ice and more). These are much more powerful and have different effects.
There are so many items and they are all beautiful in their own way.
There is no single ending. There are three different endings (including DLC). You don’t have to go to an end, there is a loop system that you can continue continuously.
You struggle to earn achievements. As you earn achievements, you unlock new items, new characters and new skills that make the game more fun.
If you get bored of the game, there are things called “artifacts” that will change the game and these change the rules of the game. Encountering a single enemy, being able to choose the item you want, dealing a lot of damage but having low health, etc.
There are mods. You can add many new characters and items. There is no way you can get bored of the game.
An incredible game, really. It’s bought just for their music. I definitely recommend it.
I love this game, that’s basically it.
Now, if you want a review for it here we go:
First things first, this game is an absolute banger, there are some characters that are sure to fit your playstile (even if you’re full melee). The game itself kind of lacks “story” but it gets forgotten with the gameplay. At first, the game can be challenging (depending on which difficulty you’re playing) but it gets easier as time goes on, and when this happens, you can get modifiers in one of the maps where it changes the way the game plays. The game basically consists on you searching for a portal (and for items as well) on each of the maps. When you activate the portal, the game kind of becomes a horde game where you need to defeat waves of enemies (besides the boss that is summoned when you activate them) until the portal gets to 100%. Each character has a unique playstyle to themselves, such as engineer where you literally play around your turrets or mercenary where you slash your foes with your mighty katana. The game is fun, that’s all that I can say, for me, it is a solid 10/10.
The game is simply challenging and of course fun, items that change the gameplay and development of the game, varied maps, multiple bosses that you will hate and a huge handful of enemies, Risk of Rain 2 is a dynamic and adrenaline-filled Roguelike in which The timer runs and the more time passes, the more difficult the game will be. As you kill enemies that appear all over the map, they will give you gold or money, which you will use to open chests. In them you will randomly obtain an item that will modify your stats and abilities. There are passives, actives, elementals, healing, rarities… in short, a huge variety of items.
Every time they patch the game they do it in a big way by adding additional skills that you can change when choosing one of the several “survivors”, each of them with their own style of play and their pros and cons, they also add new items or features, for example artifacts that serve to completely change the “run”.
The objective of the game is to activate a teleporter that will take you to the next map, you will only be able to go through it once you defeat the boss guarding it and survive the time necessary to load the teleporter.
You can also play accompanied by friends if you wish, it is fun, but in my opinion I prefer to play alone, the game sometimes becomes a little unbalanced by having more than one player in the run due to the scaling of the enemies’ lives.
In conclusion: the game is fast fun and with content that will make you spend hours and hours unlocking items through challenges that some will be a breeze and others will make you bang your head against the wall, with the release of 1.0 they add another huge round of items, artifacts, map, boss, and new character, after this patch it is not known what they will do in the future but I hope it makes me continue giving more hours and hours to this great game.
Hey, So I’ve been playing Risk of Rain 2 for a couple of hours now and I can say, I do love this game so far & the gameplay. What is Risk of Rain 2 about? Let me tell you the best I can. ROR2 has Singleplayer, Co-op & PvP that is mixed with a Third-Person Shooter, Action Rogue.
You can play with your friends or on your own, which is risky. Tackle an adventure in Risk Of Rain 2 can be a challenge, survive an Alien Planet together with challenging monsters and bosses that oppose your existence. You can fight your way to the final boss or escape & continue your run indefinitely to see just how long you can survive. This game does have a scaling system that means both you and your foes will increase in power over the course of a game when playing.
You or your team can discover new powerful items which there are 110+ items to keep with each drop, full of new challenges. I am sure you get the picture.
Thank you for reading!
I was very impressed with the 3D world view compared to the previous one which was based on dots, and the chaos of the 2D world is expressed as three-dimensionally, as well as the feeling that you are playing a TPS game.
Items you collect alter your character’s appearance, and the information on other players, turrets, and drones, which was previously unknown, is displayed on the HUD.
In particular, the sight of Magma Worm, which used to be a nuisance, running amok in 3D is nothing short of amazing.
If you think that this game is bad, think again!
Everyone who played this game has enjoyed the gameplay, plus the short story to it.
