I spent some time sailing around in Salt 2: Shores of Gold and it’s a pretty relaxing exploration game. Most of my time was spent traveling between islands, searching for treasure, fighting the occasional pirate, and upgrading my ship. The sailing itself feels smooth and discovering new islands kept me curious for a while. That said, after several hours the gameplay loop starts to feel a bit repetitive, and combat is fairly simple. Still, it’s a nice laid-back adventure if you enjoy exploration focused games.
Hey Guys and Girls,
Out here with another review.
Let’s talk about Salt 2 Shores Of Gold.
So for starters the game has great looking graphics, Similar to Sea of Thieves and the action is on par with it in some areas.
The Story is very rich and the devs have done a lot of investing with small books lying around where you can deliver into the story and world of Salt 2
Crafting is fun but not in depth, The Building aspect lacks quite a large amount and leaves something to want more from.
The Seas are cool, though it is a very large open world, and that is where the game starts to kick in with the lacklustre nature.
The seas are way to open and there are no action or intense moments fighting other sailors or pirates, Sea Monsters (Though there is the occassional Whale that pop ups).
There generate caves and islands that make the arriving to an island more entertaining and fun.
There are sharks and that’s about it really to the game.
Salt 2 is slow, cool 25 hours of play, but with the lack of Ship fighting makes the player want to jump ship.
For an Open World Survival exploration and crafting game, I thought there would be more.
Hopes for the future, Ship Fighting, World Bosses, Sea monsters, AI shipmates, building and more in-depth customization with the ships.

As a sequel to a game I had enjoyed, I really wanted to love this game. Yes, it is early access, but there is still a lot to desired. The beginning has a hard time directing the player, the adventure is aimless and dungeons while good are repetitive. In a game with lots of sailing as a focal, the game has a hard time letting you want to sale, around a whole lot, feel more like an island hopping survival game with somewhat unpolished leveling and equipment systems. I have played the game since close to its launch though and it has definitely evolved, with each update the loop expands and refines, and while I can complain about it, it is definitely getting better, especially with Quest 3 update and flintlocks. Skill trees have been added properly and when the storms update came out, it really started making the game more exciting. It is an okay game, not perfect, still rough, but getting better every major update, and while it is hard to play for extended times, it is a solid game for 1 to 2 hours of free time every now and then. Not better than other pirate-y games out there, could stand out more, but I have a lot of hope for it.
Loved playing Sea of Thieves, hated the constant grief of being attacked by everyone. Salt 2 brings that same game play feel into a Single Player (Soon to be Co-op) game.
Salt 2 is still in early development at the time of this review, but it has a lot of potential of being a fun single/co-op player pirate survival game. The main story line is being released, yet I struggle to follow the main quest line over the side quests (again, still in early development, so there is room for improving this). I really like the Sailing Pirate survival feel with making one’s ship their mobile base.
Graphics look good, and gameplay is simple and easy to understand (for the most part). There is lots to do. Crafting (Weapons, Armor, Furniture, Crafting Benches, Food, and More), Upgrade Equipment, decorations for your ship, cooking, and fishing. You can specialize your character in different fighting styles. Archery, Swords, Knives, Clubs, and others.
Overall, the game is fun, but right now it does seem to get a bit lonely out there on the high seas by yourself. They have put fast travel in between certain locations, but sailing from location to location does tend to be slow. Storms, wind direction and other aspects are being implemented soon with will make traveling more entertaining.
