Sons of the Forest Introduces NPC Companions

Recruit Kelvin to work for you or survive solo by taking him down.

Sons of the Forest is just over a month away and we got a look at some of the new features of Endnight Games sequel to their beloved survival game The Forest.

Companions

Virginia, as seen in the earlier trailers, will not be the only companion you can meet and recruit in the game. Kelvin is a fellow soldier who survived the helicopter crash. He was shown before on a beach with little context. However this new clip shows the player finding him in a wooded area, this means either Kelvin spawns randomly or if he was on your helicopter the spawn points are random similar to The Forest.

You can give him multiple tasks by scrolling through a notepad and selecting what you want. This could include gathering basic materials like wood, following you while going into the wilderness for protection, or helping you build your house.

By the sounds of it, Kelvin and Virginia are not the only companions we will be able to recruit. But if you don’t want any company and you want to survive alone on this cannibal infested island, you can always decide to shoot them in the head and remove them from your playthrough forever.

Tribes and building

Sons of the Forest map will be four times larger than its predecessor. Let’s hope it will have more points of interest than in The Forest because the eastern part of the map felt very empty.

Cannibals have their own tribes and some even have tribe leaders that will influence the way they attack. They have been updated a lot from how they behaved in The Forest. Some of them will now hide and wait for a chance to attack or steal from you when you are not looking. The cannibals are even changing clothes as the seasons get colder.

You can also set tribes up against each other by leading one group into the other, just wait somewhere nearby and pick off the remainders.

The building has gotten a significant change over the original. While the blueprint-based building is still in the game you are now able to place logs, stones, and sticks individually for a more hands-on experience.

Sons of the Forest will be released on the 23rd of February.
