Been diving into Soulmask for a while now and honestly, it’s one of the more refreshing survival games I’ve tried. At first it looks like the usual “start with nothing, gather sticks and stones” kind of deal, but the mask system changes things up. Finding a new mask feels like looting a legendary drop in an RPG, each one gives you unique powers that actually change how you play. Makes exploration and looting way more exciting than just hunting for another axe or spear upgrade.
Combat’s another strong point. It’s physics-based, so weapons feel heavy and hits have weight. There are a bunch of weapon types and a ton of combat skills to unlock, so you can experiment with different styles. Fights against beasts and temple bosses actually require some thought with stamina and positioning, not just button-mashing.
Where the game really shines though is co-op and PvE. Playing solo can feel grindy, but with friends it’s a blast. The tribe system is clever too since NPC recruits can farm, gather, or defend, so you don’t spend every hour chopping trees. In co-op, everyone can take on roles: one explores, another fights, someone else builds. It really feels like running a tribe together.
The world’s massive with lots of biomes, and every area has its own loot, enemies, and hazards. There’s always something new to chase down, whether it’s rare resources or the next mask power. It’s still Early Access so there’s some grind and balance issues, but if you’re into survival games with strong looting mechanics, satisfying combat, and PvE co-op that doesn’t just devolve into PvP chaos, Soulmask is worth jumping into.
Soulmask definitely offers a ton of content and depth but honestly, it feels a bit overcomplicated for me. I know a lot of people hyped about programming slaves to automate tasks – and yeah, that’s a cool concept but it ends up overwhelming me more than anything. Many games have tried this but majority of them turned out to be too overwhelming for most players so they would just stop playing the game. There are also so many workbenches, crafting options and systems thrown at you right from the start that it becomes hard to enjoy. I can tell there’s a great game under all this complexity and I really wish I could push myself to learn it. Maybe on my 4th try, if I’m in the right mindset, I’ll finally click with it.
Overall, the game rocks. Fix PVP and the game is the best.
Many of the game systems are based on Conan’s Exile, but the buildings in this game are monotonous and there are no decorations, which makes people have no desire to build a house. After playing it once, you won’t want to play it again.
This is a good game for players who like Survival Games. I thought I would like it too and bought it.
The World might look nice and the Building Mechanics are easy. I also like the mechanics with the servants, being able to control them so they work for you. But I just find it annoying to grind so much materials all the time. Yes, your servants can farm for you, but it takes a lot of time just so you can finish your building.
The story wasn’t that amazing or interesting and I quickly lost interest playing it. Some sound effects were also a bit off.
If you like survival crafting themed games like Conan Exiles, you should definitely give this game a chance. Considering its first release date, it is quite full of content and even ahead of its peers. The problem I have noticed so far is that the game crashes occasionally, this may also be due to my computer, I don’t know. I recommend that those who play solo play the game to make the game a little easier. Playing such games with groups of friends is always more enjoyable. Even in its current state, it has content that will keep you in the game for many hours.
The first thing that will repel you in the game will be the many text directories that will immediately appear in front of you. Although you may say “don’t be ridiculous, we are players of years, we always survive” at first, I realized later in the game that the developers overlooked such a mess because they were racking their brains for craft and gear, survivor and kombat mechanics (is it a good thing? I don’t think so, but they need to simplify it with another solution). Because of this mess on the screen and in the menus, you seriously cannot immerse yourself in the rich structure of the game. The war mechanics and the richness of life (vegetation and animals) specific to each geography shocked me. It does not make you repeat yourself easily when you do not stay in the same place.
When I looked at other comments about optimization, there were those who had problems, but I was surprised that I played very comfortably in a game with so much craft material, although I did not encounter such a thing.
Early Access game – Long-term game – Souls-like difficult game in places – A fun game – You will notice when you buy and play it, it is a game that is very open to development – But even the current content is too much and it is a game that will drown in itself – I recommend the game with peace of mind. I have not enjoyed games with this theme this much in a long time.
Soulmask is something new in the survival craft and RPG world, it is a game that’s easy to get into, with a cool vibe and an interesting story. Something that really stood out to me is it’s visuals. The visuals are really nice, with dark and eerie settings that match the game’s tone. The characters look amazing, and the music and sounds add to the whole experience, making it feel really immersive.
Gameplay is actually really fun, the controls are smooth and easy to learn and I would say beginner friendly, which helps you jump right into the action. Combat is in equal measure fun and challenging, I would say it is greatly balanced. Plus, there’s a good mix of enemies and bosses that each offer a different challenge.
Something I noticed that isn’t a dealbreaker but could be more improved is that at some point a game can become a bit repetitive. While the combat and exploration are great, some levels begin to feel a little too similar after a while. Some other cons I noticed would be tribesmen recruiting, not having a mount summon or durability rates. For example, recruiting after some time becomes a tedious grind, mount summon is really needed since map is huge and it takes a lot of time to travel, and durability of items is bad, it is really short and the more you repair them the less they last.
Some other pros I would add are base building, mounts and pets and my favourite the mask. Base building is really simple and not demanding, you can build quite easily. Mounts and pets are the really cool and fun element to the game, especially your interaction with them. And last the mask controlling the tribesman is really cool and unique concept which is the thing that made me love the game.
All in all, Soulmask is an awesome game with a lot of great features, especially when it comes to the art and gameplay. Even though it has few minor issues, it’s definitely worth playing if this is your thing. Oh, and by the way did I mention it has Coop mode, go ahead and try it, don’t sleep on this gem.
Soulmask has been great since the beginning for me at least and it received a lot of positive reviews on Steam from the start and that counts for a lot of games seeing positive reviews on Steam from the start!!
In overall, it is absolutely great to play this game either solo or with friends… Especially with friends you will have a blast, but in the other hand even if you don’t have friends you can tame some NPCs and make them your servants and forever faithful friends BUT you have to take care of them so they don’t die!!
With that being said it has a PvP/PvE system which is very fun and challenging at the same time, building and looting and exploring is great and it will suck you in for hours to an end considering there is just sooo much to do!!
So with that being said, it’s a great game and it deserves your attention. GO FOR IT!!
