Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access with a solid foundation in place, but anyone who played it for several hours could tell you where the rough edges were. The Biomod system felt limited and creature combat gave you very little feedback on whether your attacks were landing effectively. Luckily, the first majot update aims to address these issues and more.
The biggest addition of this update is an expansion of the Biomod system. New BioLabs will be placed throughout the early game, letting players discover and swap between more Biomod options from the very start. Later on, you can unlock additional passive Biomod slots by scanning creatures with a new tool, which means equipping multiple passive Biomods at the same time instead of being stuck with one.
Creature interactions have received attention as well. Most creatures now have improved flinch animations that make their reactions to attacks with the Survival Multi Tool much clearer before they flee. The Sonic Resonator has also been updated, with many creatures entering visible stun states when affected, so you can actually tell the device is doing something. Blight encounters around Angel Combs have been reworked too, with smoother transitions between passive and aggressive behavior and better visual cues before creatures turn hostile.
Audio logs are now categorized more effectively and can be replayed at any time instead of playing automatically when discovered. Wreck exploration is getting additional puzzle solving elements and visual improvements, and players will gain access to a new personal storage buildable for their bases that is not connected to fabricators or processors by default.
Looking ahead, the developers also revealed that Update 1.2 will introduce several multiplayer improvements, including Proximity Chat, Player Revive, and other features. Later this year, the team plans to release the larger EA2 content update, which will add a new region, new creatures, a new vehicle chassis, expanded progression, and additional story content.
Subnautica 2‘s Adaptive Measures update is scheduled to release on July 8 for Steam and Xbox.
