Sunkenland (A Water world Inspired Game)
Well, let’s start with the character stuff.
Customization is there basic but there, this is something I wish we had more depth and of course no 3rd person mode.
Beside this small detail, the game is fun and entertaining if you like building and exploring without a main story-line. I have to say I enjoyed the changes they made compared to the day one release. I really enjoyed the water world like idea where you swim through the wreckage of the past world. Furthermore, I do they have to say they really need to customize the overall sunken world and had more area that offer better discoverability.
I have played around 18 hours and I have to say I got bored quick after those hours. As a single player gamer, the game doesn’t really help with progression in some ways. So you have to force yourself to keep going and keep discovering otherwise you just won’t play longer.
Sunkenland has improved loads but still has a lackluster approach to the overall survival gaming experience. I am hoping that when the game goes 1.0 we’ll have something more unique and story driven and something that offers more from just diving and swimming into the depths.

Sunkenland isn’t the prettiest game out there but it does deliver a decent mix of survival and exploration on a flooded world. It feels more like a gap filler than a long term obsession, something to mess around with while waiting for a bigger survival title to drop. Still, if you’re into water themed survival games, it scratches that itch for a while.
Don’t be afraid that the game is early access, the performance is very good and goes smoothly. Normally, such games would be very difficult and require a lot of effort, but Sunkenland has created the opposite effect and has made everything easier for you to enjoy the game. You can enjoy very much playing in singleplayer mode. However, if you enter with a group, then it will be ‘delicious’ and I think it deserves a lot. If you like the genre, definitely give it a try.
Where to begin? If you’ve read my reviews on the site, you’d know how much I adore survival games. Often, I preorder them and typically wait until they’re out of early access for the best gaming experience. But with Sunkenland, I had to make an exception. The game beckoned me to install it, akin to the sirens’ call luring sailors. Plus, my daughter nudged me to play alongside her, and I assure you, despite spending countless hours on this gem, she’s logged far more gameplay time than I have. So, strap on your diving mask, grab your oxygen tanks, don your flippers, and dive headfirst into Sunkenland!
In terms of narrative, Sunkenland doesn’t offer a structured storyline but rather a rich, fragmented lore to uncover. Throughout exploration of islands and submerged ruins, you’ll gather clues about the cataclysm that submerged the planet and the fate of humanity. Abandoned journals and enigmatic artifacts dot the world, providing morsels of information about the events leading to the submersion and the pre-cataclysmic inhabitants’ survival attempts. This fragmented narrative approach allows us to weave our own stories and theories about Sunkenland’s mysteries, turning exploration into a journey of discovery, compelling us to delve deeper into the secrets of this submerged world.
Sunkenland delivers an immersive and challenging survival experience. You’re tasked with collecting various resources like wood, metal, food (especially crabs, lots of crabs!), and electronic components by diving into the depths or by fishing, hunting, and farming. Shelter and workshops are essential for protection and crafting tools and weapons. The first time I was attacked on my island, I was completely caught off guard—terrifying creatures with bulging eyes, in the dead of night, without a light source for my shack, all because I made an uninvited visit to a neighboring island that turned out to be far from welcoming! Returning to the point, exploration of the vast world, including submerged ruins, hidden caves, and wrecks, unveils secrets and challenges to overcome. Additionally, players must defend against a variety of creatures (sharks, humanoids, etc.) using an array of weapons ranging from simple bows to firearms, yes, there are plenty of guns, and now the mobs shouldn’t be trifling with us anymore.
Graphically, Sunkenland holds its own. While it may not compete with the latest games, its charming and atmospheric aesthetic enhances immersion. The underwater world is colorful and detailed, offering a diverse range of biomes and locations to explore, with particularly impressive submerged ruins boasting imposing structures. Character and creature models and animations are also well-crafted. The game’s lighting is noteworthy too, sunbeams piercing through water and reflections on wet surfaces breathe life into this submerged world.
Despite its merits, Sunkenland isn’t without flaws. I would’ve appreciated some revamping of the game’s crafting menu and inventory for clarity and ergonomics. Performance-wise, occasional framerate drops and visual bugs may occur, but I won’t dwell on these as the game is still in Early Access. This means it’s in active development, regularly updated with new content, bug fixes, performance enhancements, and overall gameplay experience improvements.
Even in its early access state, Sunkenland remains a unique gaming experience that plunges you into a submerged world teeming with mysteries and perils. I assure you; the game has the potential to become an unforgettable gaming experience. So, if you fancy yourself an adventurer and want to experience something akin to Kevin Costner’s journey in the film Waterworld, what are you waiting for?
The submerged world of Sunkenland is a great and exciting adventure with its unique mechanics and setting. It offers an immersive story and atmosphere that will pull you in and make you forget about the outside world. Even though it has some occasional technical issues, it’s still a memorable journey beneath the waves that’s worth checking out.
Sunkenland is a game of construction and “survival” (I say “survival” because you have to eat and drink, but it is not the basis of the game and it is easy to cover those conditions, especially when you have already been playing for a couple of hours.) As for The construction is reminiscent of Infected, Rust, Fallout 4, etc., since modular pieces are not used, but piece by piece, walls, floors, ceilings, etc. with which you can create a design to your liking.
You can fish, farm, and best of all, farm if that’s what you like, because the purpose of the game is to jump into the water to dive and loot everything you find at the bottom of the sea.
The crafting system, or creation of objects, is simple and very varied, from researching new construction plans for decorations to weapons and vehicles.
At the moment the creation of the character is simple, man or woman with some changes in hair and little else, you start lying in the middle of the water with a loincloth (although there are a lot of collectible clothes) and a nearby island where the adventure begins. The developers have already said that they will improve the character creation system by adding more options, and in general many more things in the game, which for now is 100% playable, both cooperatively and individually, which guarantees about 40 or 50 hours easily, If you are one of those who like this genre, and if you are a geek like me about this type of games, well, more than 50 hours easy. It is still in development, so every month or so they release new content, and the plans that the developers have communicated for the future are very promising.
What you will find:
Difficulty: Configurable in all aspects regarding AI, hunger/thirst reduction, enemy damage, etc.
Basic survival: Eat, drink, fish, farm, cook.
Crafting system: Technology research, creation of weapons and vehicles. Possibility of finding plans in the world.
Construction: Creation of bases, both on land and in water from their foundations, walls, windows, roofs, walls, wire fences, traps.
Exploration: Free and open world, multiple islands to explore, flooded areas to explore.
AI: Enemy factions, capture of enemy territory, system of invasions on their part of your base (Configurable/Deactivatable if you prefer greater difficulty or if you do not like this add-on).
General: Day and night cycles, fauna (especially in water).
To finish, great game with a lot of potential, very fun in cooperative but also alone. I have not found any bugs or errors of any kind. Waiting for the new update that will add more content! I recommend it without a doubt! Greetings and enjoy!
The ocean graphic sucks.
Sunkenland is a big open water survival craft post apocalyptic world you can explore solo or with friends. You’ll need to survive from AI or the dangerous land and underwater environments. You will need to fight, find loot & craft items. You and your friends can build a base anywhere you want. It will be your water stronghold! You can make a base like an abandoned ship base or an island penthouse! You also need it to keep yourself refreshed with water & food don’t forget to craft items, farm, store items, to stay alive. You can also create your ideal decorations and place them around the base.
I have a lot of fun with this game. I think you guys & girls will enjoy it too. Thanks for reading!
=)
The game is a fun multiplayer survival game but there isn’t much to it just yet. Hoped they continue to develop it and make it as great as I think it can be. Most of the map is underwater and there just isn’t anything to it yet. Once they develop the underwater map more with NPCs and such the game will get a lot better. The multiplayer works great though and is easy to hop in to a game with friends.
The game has huge potential at the moment. Sunkenland is basically a combination of Rust and Raft but on a post-apocalyptic flooded city. You can visit areas on land or even underwater.
Crafting is fairly simple and easy to manage. It doesn’t take too long to find items, which makes it fun and do not get boring after 30 minutes of playing.
The AI are a bit clunky right now as in some areas they sometimes just sit in one place and aim wherever you are, no real interaction with them.
If the game had a couple more islands or small cities to visit, it would be a 10/10 game. No doubt, I’m definitely waiting for what’s upcoming next to this game.
I have had my eyes on this game for a while and when I got the notice that I could buy and play it I did. It had some bugs but i didn’t care at all because it was a really fun game to play with your friends. It is easy to join Coop. The crafting is much like RAFT and that is just a positive thing, easy to understand. The game is based underwater most of the time and it makes Sunkenland different from many survival games. I think that it is easy for the developers just to expand the map to add more stuff in. I’m hoping for a lot of fun updates.
I simply Love this game! And I’m sure that sooner or later, this will be one of the best survival games in the industry
For any survival, crafting, base-building games enthusiast, this game is definitely another game to have under your belt. Even at early access, it’s already showing a lot of promise. Definitely a must have!
This game is going to be a hit!
Open-world Water/Land Survival with Crafting, Base Building, Boats, Exploring Islands and Sunken locations, fishing, cooking, mining….the list goes on and this game has it! Multi-player Co-op? Yep! Have 2-15 of your closest friends join you to play or don’t password your game and have anyone who wants to join jump in (I think that’s a good way to get griefed and have hard built bases ruined and items stolen).
It is early access and therefore still has tons of potential for growth, yet the core game seems pretty solid right now. There currently is no mission/quest line to follow, but there is enough to do that isn’t an issue. The devs in the game listen to the players and are very proactive with pushing hot fixes.
As soon as I started up, 4 hours I was still playing (Streaming)! The concept of the game is fresh, even though it is a blend of multiple styles of games that are out there right now. This game can only get better with future updates!
