Odinsoft launched a major new update for the hardcore 1800s survival game, Survival: Fountain of Youth. The Reaping the Harvest expansion added a large new region to explore, the ability to farm crops, new quests, and new ways to pose threat to your character.
The Snake Region is a vast area added to the game that was once inhabited by the snake tribe. There are three new islands and a sunken galleon for you to explore. At these locations, you will find new resources such as sulfur and silver.
Not only will you continue your main quest in the region, but there is also a lengthy side quest that sends you all over the game world and has you complete some puzzles.
By completing one of the quests, you obtain the recipe for the legendary Stormbreaker. The ship is said to be able to reach the island that has the fountain of youth. It also has useful crafting machines on board once you upgrade it to its maximum level, such as a primitive barrel, clay rainwater collector, improved smelter, and advanced chemistry workbench.
The land itself has some new tricks up its sleeves to try and kill you, the swampy area is infested with bugs that can give you malaria, a new debuff that will not heal on its own and can cause a bad fever when it gets worse.
You’ll face new predators, like condors, caimans, and hammerhead sharks. Condors act much like the typical birds you have seen before, the alligators sneak up on the player trying to get their next meal, and the hammerhead sharks will use their head to ram you which pushes you down to the sea floor. All these creatures become less of a problem once you craft yourself the flintlock pistol, a new and powerful ranged weapon added in this patch.
Farming is a brand-new feature in the game. It allows you to grow plants like linen, coffee, stick trees, and more. Seeds can be found on the ground in some locations, or harvested from some trees and bushes.
Two new equipment sets were added during this update, the Linen set and the Hunter set. The Linen set is made from flax and is useful for battling the cold. The Hunter set is made from rabbit leather and provides protection from the sun and rain. When the full Hunter set is equipped, you receive a special status that makes you less noticeable to animals and reduces stamina costs.
