A Peaceful Survival Journey That Still Needs Time
    7

I spent quite a few hours with The Legend of Khiimori and honestly the game feels very different from most survival games I usually play. Instead of constantly throwing combat and action at you, this game is more about the journey itself. Most of my time was spent traveling across massive open landscapes, managing supplies, taking care of my horse, and preparing for long trips across Mongolia. It almost feels more like a survival road trip than a traditional open world game.

The atmosphere is easily the strongest part of the experience. Riding through huge plains, mountains, forests, and snowy areas while dealing with weather and survival mechanics creates a really relaxing feeling at times. There were moments where I completely ignored objectives just because I enjoyed traveling around and seeing what was over the next hill. The world has this calm lonely feeling to it that actually works really well.

The horse mechanics are also surprisingly detailed. Your horse is not just a mount you summon whenever you want. You actually need to care for it, manage its stamina, cargo, and condition, and even think about which horse is best for certain journeys. After a while I started treating the horse more like a survival companion than just transportation, and I think that’s what makes the game stand out.

I also liked how preparation matters. Before going on long trips I found myself checking supplies, food, weather, and inventory space because getting stranded far from safety can become a real problem. It adds tension without relying too much on combat.

That said, the game definitely still feels rough around the edges. I ran into bugs, awkward animations, and some clunky controls while playing. There were also moments where the pacing became a bit too slow, especially during longer travel sections where not much was happening. The early access state is very noticeable right now.

Another issue is that some systems feel underdeveloped. The foundation is strong, but there were times where I wished there were more events, interactions, or activities happening in the world to make exploration feel even more rewarding.

Overall though, I still enjoyed my time with The Legend of Khiimori because it offers something genuinely different from the usual survival formula. It feels more focused on immersion, travel, and atmosphere rather than nonstop action. It still needs polish and more content, but the core idea is strong enough that I can see the potential if the developers continue improving it.

    • Pros
    • Horses, duh!
    • The riding feels nice.
    • You can buy, train, and breed horses.
    • Open world.
    • Cons
    • A bit buggy.

I am truly enjoying this game so far. I’m not a horse girl irl but I adore them in game. The horse mechanics do remind me of RDR2 and I find that amazing considering it’s one of my favorite games. It is a bit buggy right now but that’s expected considering it’s in early access. I do recommend it and feel like $30 is resonable.
