I jumped into Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 expecting quick zombie waves and that’s exactly what I got. The core gameplay of setting up defenses and holding off hordes is fun in short bursts, and it’s easy to understand right away. The weapons and traps feel satisfying enough, and surviving long waves gives a real sense of accomplishment. That said, it starts to feel repetitive after a while and the map variety is limited. If you’re looking for deep progression or strategy, it doesn’t go as far as it could, but it’s a decent time killer.
If you’re like me and enjoyed the first game, plus you’re a fan of round-based COD zombies with an extra twist (the building), you’ll definitely like this. Yes, the game has some bugs like getting stuck, bosses glitching, and occasional mob issues, but it’s day one… it’s likely to get better over time.
Imagine this game as a mix of COD zombies and Killing Floor, but in a tower defense shooter.
– The game runs decently at 3440x1440p on max settings with a 10900k, a 4070ti, and 32GB of 4000MHz RAM. At first, it maintained a stable FPS of 80 until around round 25-30, then dropped to a “steady” range of 60-75 FPS regardless of how many mobs were in front of us. However, we experienced occasional FPS drops for everyone on the server, dropping from 80 to 25-30 FPS for a few seconds, which nearly cost us a round, especially on the bridge map after round 30+.
– The gunplay isn’t the best, and the weapons feel VERY weak once you hit round 3. Even with upgrades, they still feel pretty underpowered and definitely need some tweaking.
– As for the graphics, they aren’t top-notch, but if you’re like me and don’t care much about them, you’ll enjoy it. I could play a game with Doom 2 graphics and still love it, as long as the content is solid. I still ended up turning everything down to low because at those high rounds, you need the FPS.
– There are THREE different classes, each with their own skill tree, giving you another reason to grind. I hope more classes are added in the future.
– I love the addition of the mystery box and PAP machine.
I personally miss the weapon upgrade system from the first game, but with the Pack-a-Punch in place, it’s a different story. Still, as I mentioned, both the Pack and the weapons overall need a buff.
Now, the question is, is it worth the $14-15?
– If you have friends to play with, then without a doubt, it’s worth EVERY SINGLE PENNY. I mean, people paid $40 for Concord, and $14 for this is a steal. You can expect 30-40 hours of gameplay, if not more, and honestly, you could probably clock in a few hundred hours for just $14. Come on!
And if you’re a solo player like me, don’t worry. In my first 3 hours, I met some really chill people, and you won’t have issues finding a team.
If you’re a fan of building mechanics in games, Ultimate Zombie Defense 2 delivers a highly satisfying experience. The ability to construct and customize your defenses is one of the highlights, giving you the freedom to strategize and adapt to increasing waves of zombies. The variety of structures and upgrades keeps the gameplay fresh, allowing for creativity in fortifying your base. While the combat can be chaotic, it’s the building aspect that truly stands out, making it a rewarding game for those who love tower defense and survival-based challenges. Perfect for creative strategists! Give it a chance
