Winter Survival Revamps Its Combat System

Highly requested combat improvements have arrived in preparation for the next major update.

Getting the combat feeling right in a game is not easy, but since players expressed their dissatisfaction with the combat system in Winter Survival, the developers at Drago Entertainment have been working hard on improving it.

The team is determined to provide a satisfying and rewarding system that meets player expectations. Since the game was not built with any combat features in mind, besides swinging your torch around to scare wolves, the progress is taking a bit of time. This is not the first rework we have seen to bring more depth to the combat. Last year, they added the blocking system, which reduced incoming damage as long as you had the stamina to keep it up.

The developers have expanded upon this by adding a parry function. When a wolf or other enemy attacks, there is a very short time window where, if you press the block button, you will deflect the incoming damage instead. They also doubled the number of melee weapons. Before, you could only do this with the spear. Now you can use your hand axe as well to perform the same actions, making it more useful than just a tool for chopping trees. It will be a heavier and slower weapon compared to the spear, but it will deal more damage to your enemies in return, so make sure you bring one the next time you go out, as they just doubled the usefulness of a survivalist’s best friend.

And for those who are waiting with bated breath for the release of ACT 3, the developers have teased it is closer than we think.

What other combat mechanics would you like to see in Winter Survival? Let me know in the comments.
