Eli Segal, the creator of Wanderlost, has revealed new details about the upcoming playtest and what they have been working on.
The buildings found around the map have gotten an overhaul. Big empty houses are now fully furnished, which makes each building more interesting to explore. Some furnishing such as shelves and fridges can be looted. The loot table is context-sensitive, meaning depending on the place you scavenge, you will find different objects. For example, clothes have a higher chance of spawning on clothing racks and food is more commonly found in fridges or other food containers.
Many of the objects found while exploring urban houses can be destroyed to gather crafting materials.
In previous versions of the game, it was hard to determine where the door was if it was located on the back side of a building due to the roof obscuring your vision. In the upcoming beta, a change has been made to remove part of the roof when you are near a building.

Some buildings will now be locked and require the use of a lockpick to open. These can be crafted with iron or steel, with steel being a higher tier. When you use one on the door, you will have to complete a lockpicking minigame. Depending on the tier of lockpick you use, the minigame will become easier or harder. If you have a sledgehammer, however, there is no need to lock pick it as you can just break the door down using it.
The necromancer zombie and a snake will be available in the upcoming alpha test. The necromancer is an elite enemy and can summon up to six other zombies. They can primarily be found leading world map hordes. While not strong on their own, once they have accumulated an army they are a force to be reckoned with. Snakes can be found in rainforests and will hide until the player gets close. These slippery creatures can be harvested for snakeskin, which can be used in crafting.
Two new building materials have been added to Wanderlost. Thatch and bamboo can now be used to create walls and floors. Beware, however, that thatch can be lit on fire, so keep it away from your campfire unless you want your base to go up in smoke.
The next beta will go live in a few weeks, more details on how to join will be given on the Wanderlost Discord in an upcoming announcement.
