10ton Ltd., the Finish developer who brought us the popular Dysmantle franchise, is working on their newest co-op title. Dysplaced is presented as a relaxing open-world RPG game with survival, building, and crafting elements.
You start by falling from the sky into a mysterious realm of myth and magic, which doesn’t appear to have any way to get you back home. You will have to start a new life in this new world. As you explore this beautiful new land, you will have to learn about this new world, build a place to stay, and thrive.
But beneath the tranquil facade, a sinister force is stirring and consuming the realm, spreading chaos and driving the people into exile. So, prepare, gather all the supplies you can to craft much-needed items, and that will allow you to explore even the darkest reaches of the land.

Development on Dysplaced started in early 2023, with a scheduled release date in late 2024, or could be pushed back some due to developmental issues. So, we get to watch this game develop through the Dev diaries they share with us.
What we did learn is that the game is going to be built as a series of island instances instead of one large map. One of the reasons for this is that it will allow level designers more freedom to build interesting areas to explore without having to stick to pre-dictated shapes of the area. If you were a player of Dysmantle, you might notice that the starting area, aka “Tutorial Island,” is larger than Capernaum, which was the starting area for that game.
Since Dysplaced is going to be introducing different game mechanics, it needed a larger area to explore them. It will provide a more freeform tutorial that will allow the player to explore the area on their own as well as finding some hidden areas, but also keeping something that you cannot access initially until a later skill is learned that will bring you back to the starter island to allow you to enter it.

As you explore the game world, you will realize that almost everything in the world is destructible and that you will be able to harvest resources from them. Once you locate a workbench, it will allow you to craft basic gear and assemble different weapons. All known recipes will be stored in a recipe book that shows you the required materials for crafting any item. All weapons consist of a handle and a head part. Different weapons might have different names for the parts, but all will have those two types of items, and once you have an anvil, you will be able to combine the parts to create your weapons.
Not only can you craft weapons and gear, you can also disassemble them back to their base parts to be used to craft a weapon to your needs, and the more experience you have at making the items, the better their attributes.

Now that you have some of your basic equipment and weapons, it’s off to the dungeons to go exploring; some mines may contain mineral veins in which you can harvest and gain access to new materials. Natural caves and D&D’esque dungeons are also on the design table, and one or both might end up in the game as well. There might also be caves with multiple exits, allowing passage to hidden areas on the overworld maps.
Additionally, there will be some NPCs in the world to make contact with and maybe even get a few missions from, but there will not be a lot of them as the world is currently in a bad situation and many are hiding.
This game looks to be shaping up quite nicely, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
