Diablo IV Announces the ‘Vessel of Hatred’ Expansion

New evil is on the rise.

Blizzcon 2023 just concluded, and at the opening ceremony, Tiffany Wat and Chris Wilson, production directors for Diablo IV, provided us with “Season of Blood” updates, along with information on the first Vessel of Hatred expansion.

Some of the additions that we see in season 2 include a new boss ladder, which allows you to have additional boss fights from level 55 to 100, along with a returning boss Durial. You will be able to battle them and collect uniques, uber uniques, and even special cosmetic items.

A rebalance of the endgame was also conducted, allowing players to get to level 100 about 40% faster than in season 1. Loot has also been rebalanced so that the higher the level and more challenging the fight, the more power loot you will earn.

Quality of life improvements were a big factor, and now all your renown awards will now carry over from season to season, and from the Eternal Realm, two additional character slots were also added to allow us to try out more character builds. A targeting dummy was added to Kovash Shad to test your builds, including two of the biggest additions are that now you can access your stash from every town in Sanctuary as well as search and filter your stash. Now gems won’t clutter up your inventory space as they are now crafting material, while world bosses appear 50% more frequently.

But that’s not all; starting next week they will be adding 5 class-specific Malignant rings, and on December 5th there will be 2 new additions. The first being an enchanting preview added to the Occultist to see which affixes are possible before spending your gold. While a new 6-week event called Abattoir of Zir to be taken on only by the best level 100 warriors; if you beat it, you will get a paragon glyph constructed by the vampire lord’s very own blood.

As the holiday seasons are upon us, they two will be coming to Sanctuary on December 12th for the first ever holiday event called Midwinter Blight. The winter peaks will be transformed into a winter terror land. One gift that was bestowed upon us is that they let us know that season 3 will feature a new challenge called The Gauntlet, where you will be able to compete in class ranking against people from all over the world. At the end of each week, the highest rank will be added to the seasonal hall of the ancients, where their name and build will live on.

And to close out the ceremony, they teased us with a little bit about the first ever expansion for Diablo IV, called Vessel of Hatred. Vessel of Hatred will continue the grim tale that began in Diablo IV as you learn the fate of the prime evil Mephisto and his demonic plans for Sanctuary.

It will take place in the new region of the world, known as Torajan to outsiders, but the locals call it Nahantu. The new expansion will also bring a brand-new class never seen in the Diablo universe.

Vessel of Hatred is scheduled to release in Q4 2024, with more details to come around next summer.
