From improved world generation and stability to overhauled restorations, revamped tech trees, and new threats to face, Astrolabe Interactive is refining nearly every corner of Aloft’s core mechanics in the next major Bloom & Blight update.
Let’s begin with the basics: the world you’ll be exploring. The developers have improved world generation, laying the groundwork, no pun intended, for future updates. This step was necessary to ensure that future patches remain compatible with existing worlds. Now, players shouldn’t have to recreate their world with every update, which also boosts overall game stability, something every gamer appreciates.
Another major change to the main gameplay loop is the reworked restorations. Only Sapling Islands will start off as unhealthy, while the other islands remain healthy. Each island will now track just three core requirements: funga, flora, and fauna.
More specifically, the Sapling Islands are barren wastelands, devoid of any greenery. To restore them, you’ll complete a series of mini-games or tasks. For example, players can harness the life wind itself to bring greener pastures to these desolate lands. Successfully doing so rewards a Dream Fruit, which allows you to open Wind Lanes to nearby locations.
Life Trees are also central to exploration. These key locations act as gateways for deeper adventures. Restoring them unlocks new areas and grants Orbs, providing further insight and progression.

The tech trees, or progression trees, have also been revamped. New branches and tutorial questions give players more freedom in how they play. Knowledge Stones and Lost Anchors are still scattered across the world, but technology can now be unlocked at your own pace. There are three trees: a Knowledge tree for machinery, a Research tree for healing technologies, and a Sailing tree for, well, sailing. Each tree has thresholds you must purchase to move forward, and the system visually shows what is next and whether it fits your focus.
Wind Lanes are another exciting addition. They create fast-travel paths where you can glide along 120-knot winds to new locations and help you sail much faster. Who does not love speed?
Then there are the new strains of corruption: Sprotox and Flogade. Details are scarce, but these creatures are bound to challenge explorers. To face them, you may need to unlock a new tier of tools and weapons introduced in this update, including Windstone and Serrated Bone.
Overall, these updates feel well worth the return, whether you are diving back in or starting a new open-world survival adventure. The new Aloft update is set to release on November 4, 2025.
