I Love dino games, and Ark was really one of my favourites, I even had the mobile version (granted it didn’t crossplay with the other platforms), thats how much I enjoyed it.
The maps are diverse, private servers are available, the dinos are all fleshed out, what more could one want? Ark really made it impossible to stop playing just because it was so rewarding, especially with the mutation systems. I mean who wouldn’t want RGB dinos?
ARK: Survival Evolved is one of those games that throws you into the deep end immediately. You wake up nearly naked on a mysterious island, punch some trees (because that’s how survival works, obviously), and before you know it, a dodo is your first victim. But soon enough, reality kicks in ! this place is dangerous, and everything is trying to kill you. Raptors? Merciless. T-Rex? Yeah, good luck. Even the weather can mess you up if you’re not careful… Freezing to death, starving, or getting swarmed by giant insects is just another Tuesday in ARK.
The game is pure freedom. You can build a tiny shack or a massive fortress, tame a hundred dinosaurs, explore deep oceans, and even go to space (eventually) Taming creatures is one of the best parts, knocking out a giant carnivore, stuffing it full of food, and then riding it into battle never gets old ^^ There’s nothing quite like soaring over the island on a pteranodon, scouting for your next challenge, or stomping through the jungle on a T-Rex like an absolute boss ! The sheer variety of creatures is insane, from adorable otters to towering, city-sized titans.
Multiplayer is where things get really crazy. Playing with friends is a blast, but PVP? That’s a different beast. One day you have a base, the next day some random tribe wipes you out while you sleep. The community can be brutal, but it also leads to some of the most intense and unpredictable experiences in gaming. If you want a true challenge, official servers will test your patience and sanity. Want to build a peaceful dino zoo? Stick to PVE. Want to live in constant fear of getting raided at 3 AM? PVP is for you !
That being said, ARK is not perfect. The game is janky. Bugs, performance issues, weird physics… these things are just part of the experience. You will get stuck in rocks. Your tamed dinos will randomly disappear. Lag will kill you more times than any dinosaur. And let’s not forget the grind ! resources don’t gather themselves, and high-level tames can take hours (or days!). But if you can deal with the chaos, ARK is one of the most rewarding survival games out there 🙂 It’s massive, immersive, and full of insane moments. Just be prepared for some serious grind and a lot of heartbreak.
While I have hundreds of fun with Ark survival evolved, I can see why some people might consider it repetitive (the whole base building, survival aspect of it), I consider those parts of the gameplay the fun of it!
You can choose what to do, like breeding dinos, farming, trying to do the dungeons that maps provide, so you can be “ascended”, etc.
The most fun I have with it is playing with friends, build a big base, giving each of us a role and just trying to tame ALL THE DINOS!
When, or IF, you get bored with the vanilla gameplay there’s a pletra of Mods available on steam! Or you can jump into the online Pve/Pvp servers!
I really like the survival crafting games. There is a lot to it, though it can be frustrating in the beginning. You start well then a dino sprints out of nowhere and chase you. When you finally get a good base set up going it’s pretty fun. If you put the effort in it, you can tame pretty much any dino. In online, it’s filled with trolls though. But the single player on ark is fun. If you love this genre, give it a chance.
It depends on your preferences on gaming. Honestly sandbox survival games seem like a big waste of time, especially because it isn’t really fun when you don’t have clear set objectives.
On the other hand, I find it quite enjoying to set my own goals. I don’t really know why, but it’s something of value to have objectives and work to complete them.
But enough of the mushy stuff.
I’m not going to lie, survival in any game can be suuuuuuper frustrating and hard. And Ark doesn’t fall short of that. It really sucks when one of your prized dinos is killed, after you spent hours taming it. And that’s what a ““creative mode” is for. Now, technically it doesn’t have a creative mode exactly like Minecraft, but it does have the awesome command prompt where you can enter in any dinosaur/unicorn/dragon to your heart’s content. The best part is, they also have it on their console version. I was super excited when I first heard that, because practically never are there console games with a command prompt.
Also, I would avoid the servers (or it’s just me), because I honestly don’t find it fun to spawn into a world, only to get immediately tranq’d and have all your stuff robbed while you helplessly lay there. I only play in the single player, and it’s much more easier and frankly entertaining that way.
All in all, I’ve been playing it since the early access on Xbox, and I’m still playing it after it’s official release. It’s a really great game with almost perfectly realistic survival (you can POOP, but you can’t sleep), somewhat accurate dinosaurs (don’t get me started on that dilophosaur), and beautiful landscapes. It’s an awesome game, and I highly recommend it.
DLC:
Overall, I say yes BUT you really need to level up and enjoy your main map before you start exploring other maps and probably beat the island bosses. Like you seriously need trans unlocked before you go to some servers.
I breed and trade so I like being able to visit other maps, especially when raising animals on specialty foods. What’s “good” really depends on what you like. My guy loves ab but I only go to visit and tame sometimes and a lot of people hate it or find it terrifying. At your current level, you will have a hell of a time if you pop over to ab unescorted because of what animals can and can’t be used and the “scary stuff.” Extinction is great for leveling and element but most servers are overbuilt and laggy in the city center. Gen also has dino limitations but has some good aspects to it. Gen 2 hands a lot of things to you but you can get engrams from all the other maps there. Everything on scorched can be found in other places from engrams to tames but a lot of people enjoy it. Rag is usually overbuilt but that’s because it’s popular.
So think about what you would want the DLCs for before you spend your money. If you want to adventure and tame new things, get them all. If not, choose wisely. Good luck……………………………………………… Aberration is my favorite.
Picture yourself stranded on a paradisiacal island, not populated by tourists in flip-flops and straw hats, but by hungry dinosaurs. Forget cocktails and loungers; your mission is survival, building a wooden hut, and taming a T-Rex with a plant fiber lasso. Yes, you read that right: a plant fiber lasso! If Jurassic Park has always intrigued you but felt a bit too passive, this game is tailor-made. No Jeff Goldblum to save the day here, nor a secure amusement park. You’re on your own against the wild. So sharpen your knife and grab your club; we’re diving into the adventure that is “Ark Survival Evolved.”
In terms of storyline, you play an amnesiac survivor, dropped naked on a mysterious island teeming with dinosaurs and fantastical creatures. Your goal is to survive, explore the island, and uncover its secrets. Throughout your journey, you’ll discover the island isn’t what it seems—ooh, mysteriouuuuus! It harbors advanced alien technology and remnants of a lost civilization. You’ll also encounter other survivors, with whom you can cooperate or clash.
As for gameplay, there’s a lot to unpack, but in a nutshell (I’m taking a deep breath): you’ll gather resources, build shelters, craft tools, and hunt for sustenance. Taming dinosaurs can be crucial, some being mountable, pack carriers, or defenders. The game’s progression system is intricate, leading to new technologies and more potent items. Exploration is open-ended (it’s an open-world game), offering new biomes and secrets to uncover. You can play solo for the solitary challenge (my cup of tea), or multiplayer (not so much my thing), forming tribes to build bases, explore, and face bosses… (whew, out of breath!)
The game boasts great graphics that transport you to the heart of the prehistoric era with a touch of futurism. Dinosaurs are meticulously modeled, and landscapes are diverse and breathtaking. The sound design is immersive, truly making you feel like you’re in the jungle. Dinosaur roars, bird songs, and nature’s sounds envelop you in the action.
Despite its many strengths, “ARK: Survival Evolved” isn’t without flaws. These include high difficulty, lack of clear tutorials, demanding PC requirements, a few technical bugs, and notably, a somewhat toxic community (which is why I generally avoid multiplayer games, but sometimes the games are worth it despite these folks).
Ultimately, “ARK: Survival Evolved” is a unique and captivating game that offers an unparalleled open-world survival experience, worthy of its predecessor. So, if you’re ready to tackle the challenge and not be deterred by the difficulties, this game will provide hours of entertainment and satisfaction. Remember, as Ian Malcolm famously said in Jurassic Park: “Life, uh, finds a way.” And here, it’s ready to devour you!
Played this game since its start in 2015 on and off game was so good as the devs kept adding to the game making it actually “evolve” new dinos every couple of weeks added a twist to the pvp and the pve side a new dino to ride and chase players on!
The game is now complete with its story ending going into ark2 there are so many maps to explore and you can stack so many hours in just exploration and taming them all.
PVP side of the game is like nothing, not even close to rust. You have to use tank dinos to soak turrets such as tek rexs to break turrets ballista turrets for chain bolas. There are so many counters to so many things I can’t name them. The game has been improved performance wise aswell. It’s a surival game for the noobs but it’s also a raid and conquer game in first/third person you can ride a dino or you can be on food with fabricated snipers shooting other players. The game’s depth is crazy.
The best thing about this game are the server wars that can last weeks with constant pvp using all your farmed items and bred dinos. I don’t recommend getting this game but get the new remastered game as it has so many improvements to quality life improvements and official servers, it’s simply better.
This game is my favorite game of all time. You really can’t go wrong with it. From dodos to space whales, this game will take you on a wild journey.
After over 1750+ Hours of playing this game, I’ve always come back every few months to check out all the new, fun things that are added. I’ve tried just about every Map available, from the Vanilla ones the Devs added to the later ones created by Modders and it’s always a joy to explore and find -JUST- that perfect spot to build a sprawling fort or castle. I swore off Official Servers long, long ago due to the toxic community, the hackers, griefers and others who made the game terrible. Private Modded Servers make this game 100 times better, providing massive quality of life changes so that it doesn’t take you 10 hours to tame a single dino or it doesn’t take you harvesting an entire mountain worth of materials just to build a small stone hovel. Honestly, the base building aspects are half of the fun, but nothing beats finding that perfect, high level really cool Dino and managing to bring it down and tame it before eventually amassing an army to take on the Server bosses!
I really love this game and I have been playing it since 2016, so my score is HEAVILY influenced by nostalgia, but that doesn’t change that the game is still amazing!
PVP can be a frustrating/annoying experience for some people (including me) but there is always PVE.
I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone right now tho because they are working on a rework of this game, so if I were you, I would wait on that.
Dinosaur riding? This is the only survival game that offers riding on a dinosaur after you capture it. At first, getting a ride-able dinosaur is hard, but after some training and help from other players, it becomes easier. Friendly community gladly passes down the knowledge to beginners so they could understand the game to the fullest.
I fell in deep love with this game like a married couple. Stacking about 400 hours+ in the game, I’ve learned everything from scratch with no friends to teach as I wanted to be independent and learn it by myself (testing my skills).
Loved this game since day one (I started on day one of steams early access release for this game). I’ve struggled through the bugs, the patches, the delays, and all the tough time ark requires of your life. Still a big fan of the game. The game can be played in so many styles and ways. From PVE to PVE to private mudded servers to primitive plus and more – to me this is the most versatile survival game ever made.
