The studio behind the well-known submarine survival game Barotrauma has spent over two years working behind the scenes to develop their new survival game Frostrail, which is set in a harsh post-apocalyptic Earth where ice and eldritch forces have taken over a land once ruled by a powerful empire.

In Frostrail, nearly all life has been drained and distorted by a malevolent force driven by the ambitions of a fervent zealot. Few have escaped this grim fate, and those who remain must contend with minimal resources and serious dangers. The focal point of the game is an armored, steam-powered train that serves as both a lifeline and a mobile base. This train carries the survivors across unforgiving frozen landscapes as they search for salvation somewhere beyond the northern horizon, while offering a necessary refuge against the cold.

The game presents players with a first-person survival experience where every encounter matters and the cost of ammunition is a luxury that must be carefully managed. Exploration plays an important role as you navigate the desolate ruins of a fallen empire, gather valuable supplies, and craft essential items such as clothing, food, and weapons. Frostrail also emphasizes the importance of maintaining and upgrading your train along with its vital Eden Engine. Whether you choose to venture out alone or team up with up to three friends, the journey demands careful planning and resource management.

As you progress through the game, you will encounter adversaries known as Revenants. These formidable foes have been twisted by the same dark force responsible for the relentless cold. Although they pose a significant threat with their unsettling appearance and combat prowess, they are not the ultimate menace that awaits as you advance further into the unknown.

Frostrail is scheduled to begin its Early Access journey on Steam next year. The development team will share more details as playtests and feature previews become available in the coming months.
