I tried Blue Protocol: Star Resonance and the anime visuals are easily the best part of the game. Exploring the world and doing combat with different classes is fun at first, especially with friends. But after a while the grind and mobile style systems start becoming very noticeable, which hurts the overall experience.
I would honestly have continued playing Blue Protocol but the thing that made me put it down immediately was the gear crafting.
After grinding out in various ways the required materials, I crafted one weapon. Took long enough to do that. But it was crippled right from the start with limited upgradability. Basically I will end up throwing this away soon.
RNG can be fine but the cycle for this sort of gambling can’t be so tedious that your effort feels basically wasted.
But if you can stomach this, then give it a go.
It’s a nice, enjoyable game, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless a major, game-changing update comes out in a few years, I think it will end up with few players.
Blue Protocol was a highly anticipated MMO back in, I want to say, 2023. It was first developed by Japanese Developer Bandai Namco, and a global release was teased until it was cancelled in 2024. Since then, it was picked up by Shanghai Bokura Network Technology, a Chinese Developer. When I first heard about Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, I was excited for it since the original Blue Protocol looked like it had some interesting systems in play, almost an SAO-like system. Unfortunately, it looks like when the dev swap happened, all the old systems were scrapped except for the models. I understand why they did it: the original version was shut down for a reason. However, Star Resonance isn’t a very engaging MMO either, with a bland story, inconsistent voiced cutscenes, and time-gating. This could be a good time-waster, but it’s also not very difficult, so it’s not engaging on that front either.
