Funcom is about to bring some fresh changes to Conan Exiles by adding two new types of followers with the upcoming update, Age of Heroes. The goal is to introduce social interactions with followers and create a more story-driven survival experience.

In Conan Exiles, you can recruit human enemies in a brutal way by pummeling them into unconsciousness. Then you bind thralls to a rope, drag them to your base, and place them on the Wheel of Pain to make them your obedient servants. However, starting with the next major update, the new companions, Freya and Liu Fei, will follow you only if you earn their loyalty through interactions and quests.

Liu Fei is a mysterious sorcerer who is stuck among humanoid grey apes. Helping him might seem risky, but it could be worth it. To add this companion to your group, you will need to listen to his stories and aid him in his quest.

Freya, an Aesir warrior with a wolfish spirit, is looking for a hero like you to hear her sad songs and help her regain her strength as a fierce hunter. She is driven by her thirst for revenge. This new companion can be located at a high peak near the Northern Aqueduct.

Companions have their own goals, stories, and personalities. Whether they follow you depend on how you present yourself and handle the key moments of their stories. They need your dedication and effort to see you as a hero they can trust and follow.

The unique abilities of Freya and Liu Fei are defined by six perks. Unlike ordinary followers, who receive random perks, you can influence three of the six companions’ perks by the choices and actions you make during your shared journey across the Exiled Lands. In this way, you can shape your thrall’s abilities that are most important for you. For example, if you often fight in battles, your thralls gain perks enhancing their combat skills.

You can now talk to your followers and learn about their memories through voiced dialogues. They’ll also give you helpful information about specific areas to explore during your adventures together in the world.

Liu Fei and Freya will be added to the game with the Age of Heroes update, coming this October.
