Deep Silver has announced that tropical zombie survival Dead Island 2 is being delayed again. Luckily, this time it’s just for another 12 weeks.
Earlier the developers posted the tragic news on their social media accounts. “The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are.” After eight years during Gamescom 2022, we got a new trailer and a release date of February 3rd, 2023. This has now been pushed back by 3 weeks to April 28th, 2023.
It is not all bad news as Deep Silver stated they would be releasing both a new trailer and will be showing off gameplay on the Dead Island 2 Showcase. This will premiere on the official Dead Island Youtube and Twitch channels on December 6th, 2022.
The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now. The new release date for Dead Island 2 will be April 28th 2023.#DeadIsland #SeeYouInHELLA pic.twitter.com/Vf1NARTECo

Dead Island 2 was announced nearly 10 years ago and went through multiple development studios over that period of time. After the success that was the original Dead Island, Deep Silver approached Yager Development to start work on its sequel in 2012. Three years later the team was let go by Deep Silver due to “differences in opinions”. Looking for a new studio the project landed in the hands of Sumo Digital before yet again changing to what is now its current development team Dambuster Studios.
Dead Island 2 is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the Epic Game Store on April 28th, 2023.
This is tragic news indeed but if it only takes another 12 weeks to polish the game to be the best it can be, then I think it is worth it. But let us hope this is the final delay Dead Island 2 is getting.
Are you excited about getting a first look at the gameplay next month? Let me know in the comments.
