As someone who played the earlier Dead Island games, i went into Dead Island 2 expecting more of the same repetitive zombie smashing. To my surprise, this entry is way less boring and much more refined compared to the older releases. The devs managed to take the core idea and polish it, making the combat loop a lot more fun and engaging.
First thing worth mentioning: this game looks really good. The level of detail in textures, character models and especially the gore system is honestly impressive. The world design is also stunning, with vibrant environments that feel carefully crafted rather than just slapped together. Walking through the neighborhoods, beaches and ruined mansions really shows how much effort went into the visuals and atmosphere.
That said, there’s one thing that still bothers me. They call it an “open world”, but in reality, you’re mostly walking around a gated community. It doesn’t feel like a fully open map where you can just head in any direction. Instead, you’re limited to specific zones and set paths. While each area is detailed and beautiful, it can feel a little restrictive, especially if you’re coming from other zombie or survival games that give you more freedom to roam.
Even with that limitation, i still had a great time. The combat feels satisfying, the world looks gorgeous and the pacing is way better than the first games. It keeps you entertained instead of dragging on with endless fetch quests. For me, that makes a huge difference.
Overall, I’m very content with Dead Island 2. It’s not a perfect open world, but it nails the action, visuals and fun factor. If you’re into the zombie genre, this one’s definitely worth picking up – you’ll have a blast smashing through hordes of the undead.
We had to wait almost 10 years or more for Dead Island 2. The wait was worth it. The game delivers a fast-paced action zombie shooter. The zombies and crafting system are also the same as the predecessors. They did well with that. The guns received an upgrade in terms of design. The zombies were also upgraded. The combat is also the same as classic Dead Island. Overall a game you can enjoy either alone or with friends.
Dead island 2 is just about massacring zombies. Yes, ok, there is the typical plot about an infection that has turned everybody but a few, including the protagonist and the optional coop friends that may join the match. Apart from that game consists about going forward and killing zombies in the most creative ways, and that is the fun part, the many possible ways of killing them using lots of tools and environmental traps and how their digital bodies react to those ways.
The game looks visually perfect and also runs incredibly well, great optimization.
Note: don’t try what you can do in the game in real life please
Now, I am a Dead Island fan and have been with the franchise through thick and thin. So, when I heard that Dead Island 2 had dropped, I was pumped and got hyped like a zombie.
First, California as a zombie playground? The talent team. The beach, the palm trees, the whole nectar festival – it’s a killer system. But then, Dead Island 2 decides to throw a party with a goofy vibe. I’m all funny, but I missed a serious, survival sense that got me involved in the first place. It’s like, “Hey, let’s play zombies and make jokes at the same time!” It’s a little weird, but it grows on you.
Behavioral change is now a win. It took me longer than I want to admit to perfect my zombie-killer face. And the weapons? Yes, please! No one wants to turn a baseball bat into an electrified zombie zapper.
But, oh, the controls. It almost felt like my character was attempting to dance, but it looked wonky. Dodging zombies turned into a weird dance off, and that’s not cool when you’re trying to survive undead chaos.
Despite the frustrating obstacle, the zombie headshot is still a blast. Cooperative mode is where the real partying happens – goofing around with friends in the zombie apocalypse is a blast. Dead Island 2 may not be what I had in mind, but it’s like that amazing friend you can’t help but love.
In short, Dead Island 2 is like a zombie mystery bag – not what you might think, a bit violent, but full of undead goodness. It may not be a Dead Island sequel I was dreaming of, but it’s a wild, goofy ride worth playing. Time to grab your zombie-smashing gear and embrace the undead madness, folks!
