Dysplaced Introduces Multiplayer Support, Opens Registration for the First Test

You can join a server with your existing character. Is that a good thing?

It’s been a few months since we last heard from 10tons about Dysplaced, an upcoming co-op survival fantasy game and spin-off to Dysmantle with vibes harkening back to Ultima Online, and more recently Tribes of Midgard.

The developers have dropped new details, highlighting their desire to finish an Early Access build. Internal and external testing has been completed, providing them with a list of bugs, mechanical issues, and content feedback to keep them busy in the meantime. Their new features were on full display, with multiplayer co-op showing us two daring adventurers traveling through the dystopian world, fighting off everything from the known to the unknown.

The in-house engine 10tons is working on has just recently created a build allowing the team to add multiplayer functionality. This allows you to host or join your friend, even with your higher-level character that is not tied to the game world. Of course, your damage output will be scaled accordingly. Game balancing and in-game checkpoints will be throttled back for high-level adventurers, so as not to spoil new player interactions. However, trusting them to keep the bridge from closing and making you plummet to your death is another story.

The developers promise that whichever way you travel, with or without friends, the world and the story are sure to grip you. Enemies and obstacles are not just cut and pasted; instead, they are placed with care and narrative purpose. This may give them room to scale up the encounters later on, with the possibility of having three to four players down the road.

With these changes, Dysplaced will run on Steam servers but will not have a live service component requiring a constant connection. This will also allow you to host your own game, on demand, with or without Steam’s server. However, they are still working on this aspect and have not perfected it.

Multiplayer, changes to combat, and updated technologies—it’s all coming together, and the developers are looking for players who are interested in helping them test the game.
