Surviving in a Ruined World you must Rebuild
    7
    • Pros
    • Detailed and realistic resource management
    • Immersive atmosphere and impressive graphics
    • Complex and stimulating survival system
    • Interesting exploration in a vast and hostile world
    • Cons
    • Resource management can become frustrating
    • Random events can disrupt long-term strategies

Imagine a world where civilization has been wiped out, where radioactivity and nuclear disasters have ravaged the Earth. Welcome to Endzone 2, a survival and management game where every decision can be the difference between life and death for your community. If you enjoy challenges, complex management strategies, and the idea of building a civilization from the ashes of the world, then get ready to dive into this post-apocalyptic universe.

In Endzone 2, you play as the leader of a group of survivors trying to rebuild a future after the fall of humanity. You will need to carefully manage your resources, build infrastructures, and ensure the survival of your inhabitants while navigating a hostile environment. One of the major challenges lies in managing water, food, and the security of your community. Extreme weather conditions, health crises, and external threats make each playthrough unique, and every choice crucial.

The gameplay is a subtle blend of survival and city-building management. You must not only construct buildings and gather resources but also anticipate the needs of your citizens. Every building plays a specific role, whether it’s purifying water, cultivating land, or protecting your community from raiders. The game offers detailed resource management and long-term strategies, where a single wrong decision can quickly lead to disaster. The exploration aspect is also prominent, with dangerous areas to discover and rare resources to collect.

Visually, Endzone 2 is a great evolution from the first game. The graphics are detailed, and the post-apocalyptic environments are strikingly realistic. Whether it’s the radiation-ravaged landscapes, regenerating forests, or the ruins of old cities, each area provides an immersive atmosphere. The soundtrack complements the ambiance with music that highlights the solitude and constant threat hanging over your group.

But beware, not everything is perfect in Endzone 2. While the game offers interesting mechanics, it can also become frustrating at times. Resource management, although realistic, can sometimes feel unforgiving, and mistakes in management can quickly lead to a total collapse. Additionally, random events, like storms or raider attacks, can make some parts more chaotic than strategic. In comparison, the first game, although not perfect, offered a more balanced gameplay experience with smoother management mechanics.

In summary, Endzone 2 is a demanding and deep management game, perfect for those who enjoy complex survival challenges. Rebuilding a civilization after a catastrophe is a risky bet, but incredibly satisfying when everything falls into place. It’s an excellent choice for fans of the genre, as long as you have the patience and strategy needed to carry out your survival mission.

Get this if you like Anno
    7

I played this quite a bit during playtesting, but I’m taking a break now to play other stuff. So if you see my playtime is low, that’s the reason (I just ran the game to check everything works and to see if my saves from previous tests load correctly, and they seem to, after copying them over).

This game is quite different from Endzone 1, so I don’t consider it a replacement, but rather an alternative option. Broadly speaking, EZ1 was a very similar game to Banished, where you had to micromanage the inhabitants and optimize building placement to reduce paths, etc. This one, on the other hand, is more like Anno, where you have to manage the economy without worrying so much about individual workers, beyond assigning them to their tasks, which is still something you have to manage in a Banished way.

And there are more similarities to Anno than that: instead of a single expansive map, this game has several settlement points you can develop, which you find by exploring the region. These points function similarly to Anno’s islands; they have different resource potentials, so you’ll need to settle on more than one, and you’ll eventually need to set up automated trade routes between them, as each has its own population and economy.

If you’re a Banished fan but don’t like Anno, this game probably isn’t for you. Personally, I find individual worker management incredibly frustrating. That whole process of “this house is here, this person needs to go to that job, I have to make sure there are proper roads, water and food available because there’s no such thing as a packed lunch, and blah blah blah” eventually sucks the fun out of Banished for me. I end up getting into a chaos spiral because my builders decide to go home for a sandwich 3 seconds after arriving at the construction site, and because I can’t finish this building, I can’t make tools fast enough and the stockpile of tools starts to fall… and before long it all becomes a death rampage. No, thanks. EZ1 was less prone to these kinds of death spirals than Banished, but the same frustration was present in the late game.

So yeah, I like EZ1, but I think this is the game that better suits my tastes. I hope during early access they add some extra features, especially merchants, but honestly, I’ve played full colony sims that were in worse shape and with less content, so I wouldn’t be upset if this is all it offers.
