Everwind Devs Roll Out Highly Requested Player Feature

The game is expected to launch very soon.

As Everwind moves closer to launch, the developers have released their 5th development update, outlining upcoming changes to world generation, combat systems, exploration, and progression.

Feedback was pivotal from the game’s demo during Steam NextFest, where more than 355,000 players participated, and over 1,500 reviews resulted in an 86 percent positive rating. According to the developers, this feedback has influenced development priorities.

Recent work has focused heavily on procedural world generation. Islands are now designed to be more varied and layered, with increased terrain detail and hidden areas. Two biomes have undergone major revisions. Jungles now feature taller vegetation, steeper cliffs, and deep canyons, along with ruins from the ancient Grimverd civilization. These areas include hostile wildlife such as Spinejaws, dinosaur-like enemies that attack in groups. In contrast, Rotten Islands reflect industrial decline, with toxic zones, abandoned structures, and underground steamer mines.

Ocean exploration has been expanded through the addition of partially submerged islands. These are most common in desert regions, where oasis areas appear. Water-based locations may include NPC settlements, shipwrecks, and lighthouses, adding new exploration sites.

everwind third person camera

Everwind remains primarily a first-person game, but due to popular demand, developers are testing an optional third-person perspective. This feature is still in early development and includes unfinished animations and camera behavior. Player feedback during Early Access will determine whether this highly requested mode remains in the final version.

Combat updates include new boss encounters such as the Wraith Lord and a large Golem, as well as additional enemies including Skitters and Toads. Improvements have been made to weapon animations, parrying has been added for weapons and shields, and new equipment and rare items are being introduced.

The magic system is being revised with the introduction of spell books and updated staff mechanics. Spell books each contain a single spell and require recharging. Staffs now operate on limited charges and are divided into novice, advanced, and master tiers, with higher tiers planned for later updates.

Additional content includes new high-altitude biomes known as Altitude 2, which feature different environments and structures that require upgraded airships to reach. Work on Altitude 3 areas is planned during Early Access. NPC villages have also been confirmed, with traders, guards, and evolving artificial intelligence systems. An expanded item progression system allows equipment to be upgraded up to ten levels and includes randomized attribute modifiers.

QoL updates include improved navigation markers, customizable keybindings, and a temporary death marker to help players locate dropped items. And the biggest change, the 3rd person camera perspective, gives us a better view of our surroundings.

Overall, the new Everwind update shows that development is currently focused on refining core systems such as world generation, combat, magic, and progression. The developers plan to continue adjusting these features during Early Access, using player feedback to guide future updates. Although no release date has been announced, the team revealed that Early Access is expected very soon.
